Nice quilt for my custom :)

After having some trouble with his previous wood supplier, my luthier got his paws on a really nice piece of quilted maple that will be used as a cap on my soon to be guitar. Whaddaya all think? :32:

Re: Nice quilt for my custom :)

Oh, I chose the piece on the right, it's got such a tight and small quilt pattern, I love that! The one on the left ain't too shabby either though....

Re: Nice quilt for my custom :)

wow that is real nice...the one on the left would look killer in a shade of blue, it would look like water!

Holy scheiß, that's incredible! :saeek: :32:

I'm with the Trans Blue finish, but if you'd be playing in a jacuzi you'd lose your guitar

Re: Nice quilt for my custom :)

Thanks for the thumbs up guys :) The guitar will be finished in 15 days, so the luthier is in overdrive now. The plan is that my girlfriend will bring it on the plane, and thus avoiding shipping + customs charges, he he. The colour I've chosen is actually an emerald/forest green with a slight burst. The idea is that it'll look like a burning green fire! It's a soloist shape body made of mahogany, and the maple cap will be a flattop approx 20mm thick. I'm going for a string through t-o-m bridge, and the pickups will be zebra coloured. A JB bridge and a Full Shred neck (if he can get the FS in time, otherwise it's a Jazz or PG neck). Oh, and the neck is maple (set neck, no heel) with a rosewoard board with paua dots, and a Kramer style headstock with flamed walnut veneer tinted dark brown to match the fretboard. I'll post some pics in a couple of days when he's dyed the top and put a couple of coats on :) If you wanna check out some of my luthiers work, go to www.monaro.com.au/guitars. Then enter the website and check out his work. Mine is "custom contemporary body made for Frank in Sweden" or something like that.

Re: Nice quilt for my custom :)

oh....the fun of having getting a custom guitar build is something really cool. And how long did it take from start to now(i had to wait nearly 6 months for my custom shop B.C Rich!)?

Re: Nice quilt for my custom :)

Hey again guys, he hasn't really spent that much time on making my guitar so far. He will carve the neck, fit the maple cap, do all the lacquering and install all electronics and do fret installation/polishing in just two weeks time :) He has a couple of other guitars to work at right now, but mine is getting the bulk part of the work for the two coming weeks.

Davey, I thought about getting a matching headstock first, but I'm going for the "expensive wood" colour instead to add some class to a quite cheesy (in a good way of course) instrument :)

What do you guys think of a JB and a FS in there???

Re: Nice quilt for my custom :)

Oh, work on this guitar commenced in late September, but like I said, he has been waiting on wood etc. so well over half of the total work is still left to do.
