Nickel and Chrome pickup covers..

i went to guitarpartsresource a while ago to look for pickup covers. on the seymour duncan products, they sell nickel covers. while on the aftermarket humbucker covers, there were nickel and chrome.

i know pickup covers alter the tone or reduces the noise, but in a very minimal way. but what is the difference, tonally if possible, of the nickel and chrome covers? maybe there's something good about nickel covers that is why it is what Seymour Duncan sells?

the difference in covered and non covered pickups is minimal, almost un-notticed in most cases. the difference between the tone of nickel and chrome is negligible.

does that extend to the relatively more magnetic ones..?
i haven't had many p/ups with covers, it'd be good to know

I am copying & pasting the answer of Tim Mills (Bare Knuckle) to the same question:

"yes cover plating does make a difference-the cover material itself is
pure nickel silver which is non magnetic-solid nickel plate(the
protective outer plating) is also magnetic as is chrome but the nickel
plate we use starts of as dull nickel which is non magnetic and then
polished up to shiny nickel-this is the least sonically intrussive.
Chrome covers by comparison do have a softer high end response as the
chrome will be effecting the magnetic field somewhat."

I guess people from Seymour Duncan should have also something to say about it.

interesting information. i'm just not sure if Bare Knuckle's process of making these covers are the same as the aftermarket ones.

yes i know it is negligible, but you can't erase the fact that it still has some difference.
