Nik Huber Guitars....

XSSIVE

OCDologist
Anyone have any hands on "test drives" on any of the Nik Huber Guitars? i'm getting real tired of Les Pauls and rather not go PRS but i do want a killer singlecut mahogany set neck guitar and the Nik Huber singlecut Orca model has me drooling. it's just what i want, a bit les paul a bit PRS and from all the things i've read/heard so far it blows them out of the water too when it comes to build quality, feel and sound. the prices are a bit high but oh well, so i'll have to sell off a handful of guitars for it...LOL

so, anyone try one?

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

wow....if that first one had neck & headstock binding, id have to get one

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

otoh, it was the carve top contours that i like on those guitars, makes them look more "finished" and graceful even if they don't have flames or quilts......just seems these guitars took elements of the paul and the prs and combined them tastefully.....

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

they seem like top notch guitars but i just don't care for the dolphin inlays myself. Isn't there only 1 US dealer for Hubers?

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

I just talked with Nik last week in Frankfurt. He's selling direct to a few stores in the USA. Contact him via his website and he'll let you know where you can get them.

Now... if he'd only use Seymour Duncans on his guitars...

as for duncans...don't worry, i'll take care of that if i get one hehehe.

I've seen those on the Willcutt site as well. No doubt that they are gorgeous instruments.

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

Nik builds great quality guitars... specifically the singlecuts I kind of frown on the idea of (knockoff of a knockoff), but that doesn´t mean he doesn´t know what he´s doing ;)

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

pretty guits, Mike...but I reckon if *I* was gonna get a paula knockoff, I'd go for a Monaco Elite.

I have to agree w/ that to a certain extent. There's always going to be someone out there that can do it better if you know what I mean.

+1

But that first one made my heart skip a beat or two, I think. WOW!!

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

Mike, if you end up getting a Huber and throwing Duncans in there, I call dibs on the Haussel pickups.

Also, check out a Hamer Monaco Elite. Those things are bad azz and come stock with a pair of Duncans. If I ever decide to go the single cut route, that's what I'll be getting.

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

I've posted this before in other threads, and I will do it again: also check out the Benavente 2k! They're incredible guitars.

Re: Nik Huber Guitars....

Ah, I was alerted to this post by my good friend BTMN....

I've been a friend, and a fan, of Nik's work for over 3 years now. Far and away, IMO, one of the top 3 builders out there today.

I also run the Nik Huber fan club, which is fully supported by Nik.

www.nikhuberfanclub.com

There are several places in the US to get the guitars. Willcutts, of course-he just became a dealer a few months ago.

There's also Marc's Guitar Shop, a great guy and a fine dealer- www.marcsguitarshop.com

You can also talk to Cliff at www.destroyallguitars.com

There is also another dealer opening up in the Pacific Northwest, and one in the New England area.

I field phone calls and emails on a weekly basis from people that contact me through The Gear Page or the Huber Fan Club wanting to know what options are available, what can they get, where the best place to buy is, etc.

Here's 2 of mine (with a GMP thrown in the mix). I have another 4 that will be coming over the next year:

I'd be happy to answer any and all questions about these.

For starters-these use Harry Haussel pickups almost exclusively-there is no need to ever change them out. They are custom wound for each guitar depending on the wood the guitar is made of, chambering, etc, and they sound incredible.

The Orca model I have was the first one made with a 1 piece Eastern old growth top. It also sports a 1 piece Korina body, with the fatback option.

I owned a Monaco Elite when they first came out-the two guitars, honestly, are not in the same ballpark. These Nik Hubers absolutely crush everything else I've owned: Bakers, ton's of custom built Hamers (I'm the guy that owns the Red Standard with the Floyd that was posted on this boards previously), BC Riches, Charvels, A few Les Pauls, among others.

The attention to detail that Nik puts into every guitar that leaves his shop is truly astounding-he's backed up nearly 16 months now, and he simply refuses to speed up and let quality suffer.

Have a good weekend, everybody!

Greg

BTW-XSSIVE, Cliff Cutreri is right in Smithtown-Grab his number off his website, tell him I sent you, and talk to him about thwm, also. He has several being built right now and on the way.

Also, the Orca may look like a knockoff-but the guitar neck joint is totally different than anything Gibson does. The scale length is also different than a Les Paul.
