NMD (New Mic Day)

ehdwuld

A Ficus
so I was looking at Sweetwater's site over the holidays
and I saw where the Blue Encore 100 was buy one get one for $99
and I must say I was intrigued
the reviews placed it ahead of the SM58 (which I have)

so I was telling my buddy about it this afternoon
and we decided to make a road trip to GC to A/B the Shure and the Blue

so we get there and the Store's new Manager suggested the Sennheiser E835
so we take the three back and try them side by side by side
and first the 58 sounded like a 58 you know
then the Blue which sounded a little brighter, a bit hotter
then the 835, much hotter louder more articulate
back to the 58, and the Shure was muddy and dull
muffled
back to the Blue brighter than the Shure but not like the 835
the 835 was on sale at $87

just to be fair we took the Beta58 back and A/B'd them
the Beta was hotter still but had the mid hump that the regular 58 had
I liked the Beta but the 835 at $87 was the deal of the day

here's a stock photo for the Sennheiser site

while we were there they had an interesting deal on a used 30 Watt Epiphone Valve Junior
they said it played but wasn't "as loud as you would expect a 30 Watt to be, more like a 15 Watt sound"
they didn't want to fix it so they were wanting to sell it for $99

if I needed another amp .........

Re: NMD (New Mic Day)

Just had a guy at GC talk to me about how this Sennheiser is better than the 58. He seemed like he knew what he was talking about, not just trying to make a sale.

Re: NMD (New Mic Day)

I do like the 835, congrats. The only issue with really bright microphones is that 'different' doesn't always = 'better'. But if you like it, heck, enjoy it!! :)

Re: NMD (New Mic Day)

You should post a clip comparing this to the SM58. I'd be interested to hear that
