Non-Gibson SG?

Does it exist?

I mean a really high quality SG that looks and sounds like an SG, that isn't a cheap imitation. Do not want an ESP/LTD Viper. looks grotesque.

No Jay Turser, Xaviere, Agile etc.

If Heritage made an SG, that's what I'd get. But they don't, so what else is on the same level as Heritage kinda quality?

I don't get it. If you'd want something that looks and sounds just like it, why would you not just get an SG?

I think you could find some by smaller builders, but I fail to see the point. I think generally folks who want that look and that sound go for the real thing, because well, it's exactly what they want.

Might be hard to find over there, but there's an English builder called Gordon Smith who makes them. I've played one of their LP Jr. Inspired guitars and it was ridiculously good. Very reasonably priced, too.

Point is I don't have full faith in Gibson. I've heard too many horror stories about f**kups that somehow made it past QC and left customers totally unhappy. I would personally rather give my business to a company I can trust implicitly to not screw me over.

Good luck with that!

None of the ones I can think off have anything like an SG :D

I wanted an SG for years, but never could find one I liked. I stumbled across a 2005 historic that was just right. I dropped in some Antiquities, and done!

Try (and inspect) before you buy?

Maybe one of these might work for you.

Re: Non-Gibson SG?

Those only look like SG's, and not much at that. They're as thick and heavy as a Les Paul, which is half the point of an SG.

Re: Non-Gibson SG?

Bruce kulick ESP sig, and I'm pretty sure Edwards makes one, then there's that high end builder I can't think of the name...

Re: Non-Gibson SG?

Why not just shop around til you find a Gibson SG that has no Quality Control issues. I've bought 3 Gibson Sg's in the last 2 years, two of them online without seeing them beforehand. One was a 61 reissue, the other a Standard. They were both perfect.
