Re: Nothing rhymes with Orange ...
I have a single channel AD30 and absolutely love it!
With the gain set low and volume up, it has a great glassy/jangley clean tone that I prefer over alot of Fender amps I've used!
If you crank the gain up to around 6 or 7 it crunches up superbly! I like to set the amp with gain at about 3 and volume to suit so that if I play a guitar with humbuckers and/or play a Strat or Tele quite hard, the sound is still quite clean but has a little grit in it or if I play softer it cleans up really well.
While setting the amp like this, I use a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 for a crunchy tone (when mixed with the amps own grit) or a G2D Custom Overdrive when I want a thicker sounding Overdrive. As much as I love the tone of both of these pedals on a purely clean amp, they really do come to life when used with an amp that's set a little gritty
If anyone wants to hear the Orange with gain at about 7, for that gritty/jangley tone I mentioned earlier, then go to
www.myspace.com/forthisdaymusic and listen to Message. The intro guitar on that song (and used on every other song I recorded) is the Orange head with a MESA 4x12 with Vintage 30's and my Fender Strat with a Bareknuckle Crawler humbucker in the bridge.
For the other songs on Myspace, the other guitarist in the band used my Orange head, the MESA cab and my Strat for all his guitar parts whereas I used the Strat with BKs and my Gibson LP with Seths but for amps I used a cranked Plexi and/or my JCM800 split channel head for my Overdrive tones. I also used the Plexi for my clean tones instead of the Orange for a different sound
