Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

True.

And roundly most everyone has stated that it would not be a likely solution for him and his needs.

As was once said....either be a good example or a terrible warning.

That's my point and thank you Skarey, I asked about no other amps. Now as far as being told it wouldn't be a good solution, I'll take full stupidity for missing that. Where was it? haha. I know it'll be a huge tone change, which I'm kinda ready for. Just gettin sick of the over gainy sound I've had since middle school. That high mid thing the mk's have is something I like. Hence the bright 5150. Kinda like I want the 5150 clear bright sound but a different gain structure if that makes sence. Gracias!

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

Well, Jacob, had you read sosomething's first post clearly and not jumped all over him for it, you would have seen that he clearly stated that he has listened to your clips and knows the kind of tones you go for, hence the Splawn recommendation.

Get your head out of your behind and actually listen to what people have to say rather than looking for validation on a decision you made before posting the thread. And I mean this in a very friendly way. You do this A LOT and it gets old FAST.

My advice, go play as many amps as you can with your guitar and keep your options open. Drag one of your cabs along if you have to.

Jacob -

Test Drive a Genz-Benz El Diablo if you have the opportunity. The description you gave called it to mind immediately.

Demo Video

edit: While the tones in that video are good, try one out. I don't recall it sounding like that video when I test drove it.

If you end up playing vintage mark IIs or IIIs, make sure you keep track of any colored marks on the back of the chassis near the power cord. There are many variations on these amps which seem to have the same name, all of which sound different. You may find yourself liking a mark III red stripe but hating a blue stripe or vise versa.

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

From my research (cos i'm interested in the Mark series too), the Mesa Mark III Green Stripe will best suit your needs SpaceShipOne INCLUDING the Mark IV, but of course try both out before you pay out any dough.

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

Honestly, everything you are looking for in an amp from what I'm reading here sounds like the Mesa Stiletto, not the Mark IV.

Can you buy 1 of those things?

I had loads of toy ghostbuster shizzle when i was a kid. I'd love a real 1 to scare the ****e out of my nan. Lol.

On the subject of Mesa's, they're all just too **** expensive over here (the Mark IV combo is £2k which is a $4k equivalent) so we (Brits) have to look for used. I'm looking out for a used Mark III GS combo.

A guy who may or may not be signed up on here has a Mark III Green Stripe (i think it's a GS anyways), which sonds great- really tight & defined and apprently doesn't sound compressed on gain levels below 8. The cleans aprently kill too.

I'm a fan of Mesa construction. Even the amps of theirs i don't like are built like tanks- i bet they can take a hell of a beating!!!

If that guy is signed up here, i'll ask if he can post a sample of the Mark III.

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

Okay, I know that it's a ghost trap ... I just don't get what it means in this context. I'm a bit sleepy today though.

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

A play on the old "IT'S A TRAP!" forum pic.

In other words, don't be baited into the obviously pointless thread.

Sometimes I out-clever myself. I think this is one of those...

MKIVs are great amps. But they need alot of volume to deliver the metal goods, and frankly a MKIII kicks it's @$$ at those kinds of tones. The MKIV has alot more versatility, but it can also be a PITA to get dialed in. Its almost TOO much.

try some different speakers...you'd be surprised.

Mesa sounds good??
Since when??
:D

Well, there's two....and that's just off the first page.

+∞, one reason I didn't end up with the Mark IV.
The Mark III seems to be tighter and have bigger headroom as well, the extra compression of the IV sounded too tame/modern/smooth to my ears.
For the IIC+ tones, there's this certain metallic clang to the IIC+ (listen to the early DT live recordings) that the III can do easily.
The thread poster prefers a smooth sound though, the Mark IV will do that better.

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

Slop, do you wanna post the Mark III clip you recorded? (Creeping Death).

Also, for me, do you wanna record some death metal riffage? :)

Re: Now the downside thoughts of a 5150

LMAO!!!

This is an old old thread I know, but after reading the whole thing, and I mean THE WHOLE thing, I couldnt help but to notice just after finishing that the OP doesnt even own a Boogie now, but a SPLAWN!!

Awesome! Just Awesome!
