I don't know what it is about modern players, but everyone sounds like they roll back on the tone knob too much. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I remember hearing more treble from players back in the day. Henderson has the sound I'm talking about pretty much nailed here:

His tone sounds like birds chirping to me at times. That's the type of tone I like!
Is it just my imagination, or is it that modern players are prefering the muffled tone that I descibed earlier? It's almost like people are playing with a wah peddle fixed in the halfway depressed position.
The big guy on drums looks like he's having lots of fun!
