NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

Re: NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

I am indeed going with black hardware!

I must say I agree, it will be badass!

IMHO, I would be partial to chrome hardware on this color body for some reason....It will look good either way though.....I think I had a dream last night about this guitar :dunno::wink::sleeping:

Those pickups are going to scream in that guitar. If the excitement doesn't go away after 4 hours you should probably consult a doctor.

LOL PERFECT

Re: NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

That makes sense! In that case, I do hope it has a separate board for sure.

I can't wait to try the roasted maple neck for sure. Right now my favorite neck feel is wenge followed by unfinished rosewood so I'm eager to try the roasted maple for sure!

I am about to do the 3rd coat of shielding paint (for coil splits on the WLH) and then once it dries I will begin the electronics installation.

I do see where he is coming from and it makes sense...I just wonder how "real life" relevant the one piece vs multiple argument is. lol I love the look of one piece bodies and I'd like to think they sound better than a blued piece BUT I just don't know if I can make that assumption. lol

If you are not thrilled witht he roasted maple then I'll eat my shoe lol jk, but I no doubt you will love it! I've heard awesome things about unfinished Rosewood necks but have never handled one. I love the feel on the fretboard so I will assume they are aweosme. lol

I hear you, I've owned a few blue guitars with chrome or brushed aluminum before. They look cool too but I love blue and black a little more myself.

I played on this Warmoth flat top LP for a few years with chrome hardware:

And of course my favorite non-Warmoth guitar I ever owned was this limited edition 2004 Gibson LP Studio with brushed aluminum hardware:

But I still dig the blue and black look a little more.

Oh boy, now I am tempted to say I didn't like the roasted maple just to see if you will eat your shoe man!

I could see both Chrome and Black...but IMO the Black will be better because of the dark grains coming through

Re: NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

I'm a little envious or at least that looks like a very nice guitar. Black hardware will look nice. What electronics are you planning on. At least put triple shots of jummy page wiring. It's a beautiful guitar and I think it will sound nice. Kudos

Thanks man! At this time I am just going with two push/push volume pots wired to do coil splits on the humbuckers, If that does not prove to be enough options for me then I may explore Page wiring in the future but for now we'll see how it goes.

Re: NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

Awesome! Let us know what you think.

I will for sure once I try them. I've got a long way to go. Still waiting for the neck to arrive and I still have to wire the jack and pots. I just got done soldering the switch though! I think that's all I'll get done tonight though.

Re: NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

Don't know how I missed this thread before, but...
DAYUM! She's gorgeous! I love the depth of that grain and I'll bet she looks (and plays) great with the maple neck. I'm not typically a fan of black hardware but I think it's the right choice for this guitar.

Congrats! Can't wait to see/hear more! [emoji106]🏻

Re: NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

No sign of the neck yet but I think I will still work on it a bit tonight. I might just go for broke and get it all wired up so it's ready once the neck arrives.

Re: NPD: Whole Lotta Humbucker Set

Well, everything is wired up now. The pickups passed the tapping test so they are working. There seems to be a slight problem with the middle position on the switch as it is not always making contact (specifically for the neck pickup). Kinda bummed out about that as it is a brand new switch. Oh well, something to replace later I guess.

Other than that... just waiting for the neck to arrive so I can play this baby!

You've probably have a cold solder joint or, a defective new switch. It happens, specially on asian-made parts. They really look the part, but afterwards they fail. And the worst is, they're not even THAT much cheaper than real Switchcrafts!

HTH,

HTH,

Hey thanks man! For whatever reason the switch passed the test with flying colors just now, however, if it starts happening again I will check the solder joints and if that doesn't fix it I will order a new switch.

I wish switchcraft made an all black switch to match the hardware!

That's the only downside to going with black hardware–seems like you can't get eveything 100% black...always a bit of chrome showing.
