Yeah, I had a few Gibson and Epi LPs years ago and I find the ESPs to be much better at metal. But I gotta give props to the Gibsons for being just pure tone machines and having mojo. Conversely, the moment I picked-up the ESP I was a shredding machine. If you're into old school, class A, single channel low-gain amps then the Gibson LPs would probably be more your bag. If you're into class AB, channel switchers and want tight gain and a shredible neck, then I think ESP is the better choice.
One thing I noticed early-on in my comparisons between ESP/Ltd LPs and Gibson LPs is that during the summer outdoor show season, the ESPs seem to stay in-tune better/easier. The Epiphones were the worst at that, followed by the Gibsons, Ltds, and ESPS.
