Nuther ESP Eclipse on the way...

Re: Nuther ESP Eclipse on the way...

That's awesome man. Do you like it better than a Gibson Les Paul?

Yeah, I had a few Gibson and Epi LPs years ago and I find the ESPs to be much better at metal. But I gotta give props to the Gibsons for being just pure tone machines and having mojo. Conversely, the moment I picked-up the ESP I was a shredding machine. If you're into old school, class A, single channel low-gain amps then the Gibson LPs would probably be more your bag. If you're into class AB, channel switchers and want tight gain and a shredible neck, then I think ESP is the better choice.

One thing I noticed early-on in my comparisons between ESP/Ltd LPs and Gibson LPs is that during the summer outdoor show season, the ESPs seem to stay in-tune better/easier. The Epiphones were the worst at that, followed by the Gibsons, Ltds, and ESPS.

Re: Nuther ESP Eclipse on the way...

Just got it! NICE!!! Top, headstock, neck are all dead mint. Some buckle rash on the back and a small eraserhead-sized ding by the control cavity, but if you just looked at the front you'd think it could be hanging in the store. Just tuned it and played for a minute or two at my desk... can tell it's gonna be a SHREDDIN machine. Can't wait to get it home tonight and plug it into the VHT Ultra Lead and Bogner Uberkab for some metal tones.

Obligatory [crappy cell phone] pic...

There was an ec/qmh/hmq/can't remember 100 with the same color at a local pawn shop. almost bought it because the color! i got a parallel 9v harness that i wired for my ESP M-II. i'll have to pop that in and record it.

Yeah, I'm curious to see what the difference is between the 9v and 18v.

Re: Nuther ESP Eclipse on the way...

dig it man

there's this little bubble of GAS in the back of my brain for an EC-1000FR...cuz i love Les Pauls but i'd like a Floyd guitar around just to have...

I wish they would (could?) do the proper 4-knob layout like a Gibson, and I hate how the 'front' volume knob usually controls the bridge pickup (although i totally understand why they do it that way) but in almost every other way, the ESP / LTD stuff is awesome.

Usually a $500 LTD will smoke a $500 Epi...and the Eclipse II at like $1600 has features you have to pay almost twice that to get out of Gibson anymore...so they are definitely a great value brand to give you a lot of guitar for the money...

Unfortunately for me and my wallet, my tone, playing style, etc feel way better on a normal Les Paul...but as a "sketchy gig that i don't wana bring my year's worth of savings to" guitar, or a straight-up metal axe, they are tough to beat.

Totally agree. I was into the Ltd 400 series because they were more LP-like, with thick bodies and thick tone. But I noticed that when I tried to do higher-gain stuff, they turned to mush. So I swung back to the thin bodies and I couldn't be happier. They also stay in tune very well.

And even though I've now officially sworn-off "wang bars", I still wouldn't mind having an ESP or Ltd with a Floyd hanging around just for the off chance that I might need one for a song. I blame Alex Lifeson and Neal Schon for being seen so often with Floyd-equipped LPs... :D

^ haha exactly...screw those guys...i'm not saving up another year or two just for a Les Paul Axess...hahaha

NO doubt. I'd love one... but even if I won the lotto I'd have a problem spending that kind of money for an LP with a freakin' trem on it. That crazy!

Re: Nuther ESP Eclipse on the way...

The axxess just looks dumb to me.

I rewired my EC (and everything else actually) to have the neck volume at the front since it's the only one I ever mess with anyway.

Re: Nuther ESP Eclipse on the way...

took me long enough to make cool edit record again!(switched recording inputs) and i did the 18v and 9v recordings on my Lotus frankenstrat. in the bridge position with the 85. the left channel is the 9v while the right channel is the 18v. used my line6 toneport ux2 with podfarm. its nothing in particular song-wise, just took a part from one of my tunes and threw a couple of on the spot riffs in.
18v vs 9v
