NVPD ...Guess

New Vintage Pedal Day.
Hint; It's filthy, it's dirty, and it stinks.. It sneaky and hides behind your refrigerator at night and scarfs whatever it can find from what you dropped on the floor the night before. Before yuo know it, theres an infestation. It spread the bubonic plague, which wiped out 1/3 of the European population in the middle ages.

Re: NVPD ...Guess

well, I've left enough clues that any armchair detective could solve this, so I'll just say I got the crowning glory ot my 80's dedicated Marshall OD pedalbaord( already got the ts-9, Od-1, Dod 250 graybox analogman clone), an an assortment of old Classic Marsahll boost pedals-bluesbreaker, Shredmaster, and guv'nor. Now If I could get one of Yngwies original grayboxes, that would be smashing!

w/o further adieu, I present the mid 80's genuine original Rat. I got it for 50 bucks below my max bid at $228.00, and its in great condition, so I'm ecstatic. Been waiting for this one for a long while;

Re: NVPD ...Guess

Gotta be a Tube Screamer.

Thats a good one, lol! Forget it, I'll never spend the money on a real old TS. I have a TS-9 from the 90's modded to 808 specs. I like the analogman Yngwie 308 DOD 250, but now wondering if I could maybe pull off a real old Gray box 250-...hmmm. These things are solid investments. They outperform any mutual fund.

Re: NVPD ...Guess

I have never understood what the fascination and big deal is with those pedals. I didn't even like them when they first came out.

Re: NVPD ...Guess

^ yeah, well... its a classic sound is all I know. It's heard on lots of 80's vintage rock with a Marshall JMP/JCM800 , so that is why it's been added to my pedalboard. From what little I know about it, its a a overdrive that blurs the distinction between OD and distortion? :dunno:

Congrats on the find! It's always nice to find that vintage piece that you have been looking for for a while.

I'm with Jolly though, the RAT has just never been a pedal I'm interested in.

Re: NVPD ...Guess

I wish I knew how much they were gonna be worth..I would have kept mine.

I appreciate them far more now than I did BITD.

Congrats Jer.

Re: NVPD ...Guess

Well, when it starts multiplying and you get an infestation, send a couple my way!!! Congrats!
As far as the fascination with them.. Ive never bought one over the years because of the statements like whats posted above from guys whom I respect the opinions of. But, I do remember back in the 80s, a bud of mine got one and had it in front of his JCM800 and he sounded awesome!

I did recently by a very inexpensive knock off. I wish I could test mine back to back with a real one to see if they are close..

Re: NVPD ...Guess

Best sound I ever heard from a RAT was this jazz guy in a fusion jam.
He used a Strat into a tiny SS combo and got all sort of Holdsworth-like tones out of it. Killer guitar player and tones.

Re: NVPD ...Guess

i never liked the rat back in the 90's when i first tried one but i like em more now. didnt like tube screamers back then either

Re: NVPD ...Guess

I used to use a borrowed one into a Fender Super Reverb back in the '90s. The sound was good but there was just too much damned compression (and I keep the dirt elements to a minimum).

Re: NVPD ...Guess

I will say I've liked a lot of the sounds I've heard people get out of them. Especially this fiddle player who used one to get a bluesy sound on his fiddle. Lionel Young is his name. My ex-gf wanted one for her fiddle for a long time after we saw him.

Re: NVPD ...Guess

Congrats!

I persoanlly love the Rat! Best rhythm drive sound I've ever heard was a dude on a Parker Nitefly going into an 80's Rat through a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

I had a Rat and a Solo–loved them but didn't use them for my playing. Will most likely get another one eventually.
