Oiling Rosewood for Dummies.

Re: Oiling Rosewood for Dummies.

Bore oil,It's use to treat the bores of woodwind instruments works great on guitar fingerboards a little goes a long way

Finally, a good idea besides spit. I read that somewhere else, too.

Re: Oiling Rosewood for Dummies.

lemon oil is not lemon juice

I already have mineral oil, lemon oil, scratch cover. but i was wondering-someone said mineral oil goes rancid. Total BS, right? Not in our lifetimes.

Re: Oiling Rosewood for Dummies.

I haven't heard the dummiest question yet:

how to oil fretboard with strings on (very loose-enough to slide microfiber towel through-I cleaned it dry, then damp, then dry), but scared to get oil on strings. No, I don't have any strings, but it needed attn badly.

THERE'S the stupidest question.

OK, I believe correct post in correct place, and I would love any suggestions. Other than don't do it. :newbie:

Re: Oiling Rosewood for Dummies.

I used raw linseed oil on my '98 Fender American Std. Strat that's in my avatar. I first cleaned the fret board with soap & water. Then I applied ebony wood stain to give the FB an ebonized rosewood look. I did this a few times and let it soak over night. Then I brushed on raw linseed oil over the entire FB and let it sit overnight. I would wipe off the excess oil and re-apply another coat until the FB looked sealed. The results turned out very well and the FB looks and feels great.
