can anybody tell me about these?

sure...from what I know, its basically a 1x12 and tube power section designed to be used as a....well, tube power section and 1x12 for your modeler....think its got 1 12ax7 and 2 el84 s, and its an 18 watter....but pretty loud and retains its headroom pretty well. There's a slot in the top where you can put your modeler, and there are different templates out for the different modelers (V-amp, POD/xt, Vox, etc).

that's what I know  ...But thank you. :)

Has anybody hear used one or does anybody own one...I need details.

Re: on the subject of modelling...Atomic amps??

no problem...for what its worth, I played one at the local music store and it sounded fargin out of this world with the Vox modeler they had on top of it...I'm a PODxt guy, but it sounded most excellent. I was mostly going through marshall type sims, but had lots of balls, and it was plenty loud.

We're both in GA...what was it going for? What do you think of the POD xt? Who is it compared to a POD 2.0? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm getting somewhere! You said "sounded excellent" and "lots of balls"...that's what i wanted to hear!!!

no worries man...it was at portman's music in savannah...don't want to misquote it, but it was ballpark of $600. The PODxt is a huge leap over the 2.0...and very useable. With the software package Line6 put out its too easy to throw together a few patches. Mostly I've found myself using british flavor patches....Marshall JCM 800 is my favorite, but I also use the HiWatt, the Cornford, Soldano (I know, its american) and Boogie Dual rec and IIC+. Freaking awesome. All I need is a power amp and cab (or atomic!) and my rig is perfect. I like tubes, but till now didn't have quite the versatility to do all the things I wanted in one amp. The PODxt+atomic gives me the flexability and tone at the same time. In my JCM800 patch, I throw a distortion box in front of the amp, a little delay, some verb, and its the schtuff for me. You wanted balls, thats it ;)

Re: on the subject of modelling...Atomic amps??

This is a subject I know a little about, because I got to play the prototype! :)

The atomic amp is designed by Harry Kolbe. Harry was one of the amp mod guys in NYC. You can probably still access the site at http://www.soundsmith.com/. Harry did all of the mod work on my JCM800.

When I went to pick up my 800, Harry was telling me all about the Atomic amps, and I got to try one out with the POD "module".

First thing you need to know about Harry is: THE MAN KNOWS TONE. This guy has repaired or modded every amp known to man, many for well known players, and he knows what works and doesn't work.

Second: HARRY LOVES THE 1x12. Harry believes STRONGLY that the best speaker cab in the world is the 1x12. We discussed cabs at length one day, and he totally hates the 2x12. He thinks too much compromise went into the 2x12 configuration, that there's no source point, and there are too many phase anomalies.

Third: HARRY LOVES PORTED CABS. Actually, the Atomic prototype I saw might have been vented, not ported, but the effect is the same: more bottom end.

Harry's idea is a cool one: add a modest, high end power stage to your modeller, including the cab, so that you can take your POD from the studio to the stage without having to compromise all of your settings.

The Atomic protype sounded mighty fine, I must say! The JCM800-ish model didn't compare to my actual 800 sitting in the same room, also playing through a Kolbe 1x12, btw. But then again, I've never been a fan of the POD, low wattage amps, or 1x12 cabinets.

Hope you find that helpful!! :D

Re: on the subject of modelling...Atomic amps??

I was completely uninterested UNTIL I heard thet Harry was involved! I played through an Orange Overdrive 120 that Harry had done...WOW what a beast that thing was!!!

TwilightOdyssey,
Thanks for your imput

Re: on the subject of modelling...Atomic amps??

look through the forums on the line 6 website under the POD section of threads, and in the forums on www.instituteofnoise.com (the guy who started that sight is a member here.... andy i think?). so some searches and whatnot for the atomic, there is a lot of info on them, and not a single bad review. everyone raves about this amp. im getting one for christmas, without question.
