One Channel Amps

Well. I am on a quest for an amp, I am starting to save money now. I am looking for a head, not a combo, I want 50+ watts(No wattages disputes please, I know what I want)

The tone I am looking for is something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwNsiuS9IM4

So yeah, throw what you have at me for 50+ watts, single channel, it doesnt have to be a dirty amp. Pretty loose guidelines I know. And less then 1500 Canadian if
possible(for the head)

EDIT: I know he is using a Soldano SLO through Green(Matamp) cabs there. And also the VHT Deliverance looks very amazing....

Re: One Channel Amps

As much as I love Matamps, they are way out of my price range when you add in the price of the head and cab(because honestly, whats a Matamp with a Matamp cab) they sure are nice amps though, I would get a GTO quicker than a GT1 personally.

I'm leaning towards the GTL myself.....but I know where you're coming from.

Yeah, another thing about Matamps is I sort of want something I wont have to goose to get distortion. I mean, I love the sound of a Matamp with a fuzz/distortion just as much as ever, but something about the deliverance is drawing me to it.... I dont know, it could be the blatent simplicity.

Re: One Channel Amps

I don't know exactly what you're after, but an Orange Rockerverb will give you quasi Plexi tones off the clean channel and plenty of dirt of the dirt channel. It's a two channel amp, but who says you need to use both channels? I use my Rocker as two single channel amps (I don't channel change during a song....I use my volume instead).

I'm also going to plug the JCM800 here, and if you're willing to look at a GTO you might also want to look at a Plexi.

I can't help you on the VHT front....I don't know much about them. Just tossing some ideas.

I thought about a Rockerverb, basically what I am looking for is a darker, heavier plexi type sound.

Re: One Channel Amps

You might want to check out what I recently purchased. I know we are gunning for somewhat the same kinda sound, and this brick nails it.

I'm really happy with my rig at the moment, getting some awesomely heavy tones out of it. Also, getting some much more impressive cleans than I had expected.

Re: One Channel Amps

A Marshall 2500 MkIII or SL-X. Single channel with 2 switchable master volumes. You cannot go wrong with that amp, and they are much less than your budged right now. Spend the rest on a 4x12 or 2x12 and good speakers.

Re: One Channel Amps

Why not buy a soldano hotrod ... cool and versatile amps (sound wise not featurewise ;) )
IIRC I saw the one channel version going for <800Eur (1200 Canadian) here in germany on ebay

My picks would be:

Marshall 2204 (The amp I own and swear by)

VHT Deliverance 60

Soldano Avenger

Cheers,

a L&M store in Vancouver a few years back was un-loading their rental amps for cheap.... which is odd for L&M as they try and charge almost new for used Rental gear.... the bastards.... anyways i was on holidays out there and the store near my sisters place had a bunch of cheap Marshall 900's.... i could of grabbed an SL-X for $450..... looking back i should of grabbed it!!!!

Remind me next time I get to Canada to stop buy and knock you upside the head. :chairfall :chairfall

I paid around 6 bills for my MkIII back in March of '96. March 7th to be exact. I still have the receipt here.
