One great axe or lotsa good ones?

Re: One great axe or lotsa good ones?

i figure mine is sort of a museum piece, its a 50th ann strat with surfers, 3 tone sunburst, but i play the crap out of it and take it everywhere. I dont care if it gets dented etc, its meant for playing and it means alot to me.

Re: One great axe or lotsa good ones?

I have the five in my sig, (not counting a Yamaha acoustic), and I could buy another five just like them for a grand. But, as a relative beginner, I like the "fun factor" of having different ones to choose from. Plus, it gives me an easy way to try out different pups.

I imagine, someday I'll hone my skills and my "tone" to the point where I'll only need that one. But I'll probably still keep a few around. ;)

I would say Quality over Quantity. Obviously if we all had an endless supply of money we would all have several Great guitars. I've had my 1978 Les Paul Custom for 14 years now and it's all I'll ever needed. I recently got it modded with the Jimmy Page wiring scheme (coil-tap for each PUP, series/parallel switch, reverse phase switch). This gives me 24 different tonal varieties in one Great guitar!! I couldn't be happier with it. If your gigging then I would say get a "good" back-up so you don't train-wreck your show when you break a string or something. The "good" guitar should be defined as something that will be reliable (stay in tune, solid tone).

Of course you should also definitely have a Quality acoustic. I prefer a very nice steel string and a beater nylon string leaning against the couch in case you get that urge to start strumming when you on the Playstation!
