One of my favorite guitars

Just finished a "makeover" of sorts on this strat, and I took a quick crappy pic for you. :D

I picked this 1990 Strat Plus DX up off Craigslist years ago along with an amp with the intention of flipping it. I sold the amp, but the guitar just sounded great, and had a really nice feel to it, so I kept it. I went about a year without doing much too it (Blue/Silver/Red Lace Sensors) but the frets really worn, and needed to be replaced. Eventually I flattened the board and installed SS frets (one of the first guitars I had with SS frets). At some point I had pulled the complete stock guard and stashed it (still have it), and replaced it with a HxS set up. That remained until I pulled it out of storage a couple of weeks ago for some reason, and during the restring noticed the stock trem post had started to "creep". I decided it was makeover time. I ordered a new Gotoh tremolo, and a HSS guard.

She is now good as new, and has DiMarzio VHPAF and two HS-2 singles.

Daddy loves you baby!

Very nice! How do you like the SS frets compared to nickel?

I will never go back to nickel frets. I still have guitars with nickel frets of course, but anytime I have to re fret a guitar, it gets stainless.

Love it! Very nice flow from the guard to the pups through the burst and on to the neck.

Re: One of my favorite guitars

That one has a cool vibe to it.

Yikes, what's a creeping tremolo.

When the tremolo studs start to oblong the holes in the body.

Thankfully the slightly larger diameter of the Gotoh studs was enough to take up the slack. I reinforced the wood inside the holes with thin CA glue before pressing in the new inserts.

Ayrton, you've got quite a talent with revamping, souping up, or building a pretty nice looking guitar. Care to lend me some of that panache? ;)

Re: One of my favorite guitars

I have basically the same guitar (I'm assuming that one had the Fender/Floyd Rose locking bridge) without the mods. My only upgrade has been to toss the Lace sensors in favor of Duncan SSls.

Nice instrument.

Ugh, yeah, trem post creep - happened on my old basswood RG...

Love the grain on that. Impeccable and tasteful work yet again.

This is nice.

A friend of mine has a candy apple red Strat plus deluxe from 1988, on which i've set up and replaced the faulty bridge Lace Sensor. It has the older roller nut (not the LSR one)

The neck was made by Herb Gastellum, who was a Fender employee from 1961!

My friend keeps it locked away as an investment.

I really think he should play it though. These guitars aren't old enough or rare enough to sit gathering dust.

I love that you've rejuvenated yours. It looks fantastic.
