Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

I was looking rather lustfully at this one the other day:

The only problem is that I can't find anybody to sell me one.

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

I don't know about that but I had one of those little Tiny Terrrors that are about the width and height of a large smartphone and had a ton of fun. They have a tiny little matching cab that you would think probably sucks, but it's quite good. Of course, being me, I just used my 1x12 and it was loud for its size. It's designed with a single preamp tube I think. If you haven't tried that, then you should check it out. They're pretty cheap too.

Yeah, I like the little SS Tiny Terror...it sounds great. Did'nt care for the Dark Terror version as much.. (I'm talking about the little solid state boxes..don't know exactly what they're called)

Stick to what I said about the CR120h..best sounding Orange amp to my ears ..darker, more organic sounding, got something vintagy-great going lead-tone wise as well (idk..more warmth/less edge maybe?) & less fizzy than all their others...it's supposedly a great sub for the Rockerverb, but I'd actually say the opposite is true for me :laugh2: The Dark Terror (tube version) would be my next fave..

Ha! I didn't know they made a Dark Terror version of that little head. It's pretty gainy already so the Dark version must be totally saturated. I was surprised at the headroom and volume you could get out of the micro terror though. Pretty flexible little tube hybrid.

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

Yeah, the Micro Dark it's called...slipped my mind before. Not bad but I prefer the sound of the original Micro Terror. They do have in a tube (12AX7) in there somewhere, so yeah technically they're hybrids :bigthumb:

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

I currently have Tiny Terror. Don't plan to get another Orange anytime soon.

However, once they release Rocker 32 in head version. I probably have to get that. Only reason I didn't jump for it previously, was because I don't want nor need a combo.

Orange: "Look, we made an amp that's designed to run stereo effects!"
Guitarists: "Great, so we can run effects to the left and right speakers in the combo?"
Orange: "But you can send them out to other cabinets!"
Guitarists: "Yeah, but we still have to lug the combo around, can you just release it as a head please?"

I got tempted by the Micro Dark, as a little amp to have in the front room, but also to use with an A/B pedal as just a fuzz pedal/ extra channel, because you can just go in the front and out of the effects loop send and not worry about the solid state power section.
But I got an EHX 44 Magnum instead, so I can stick different pre-amp pedals with it.

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

TH30 head with Marshall 2x12 Vertical cab loaded with V30s.
Sounds great but has to be the biggest and ugliest thing I have ever seen.

I was tempted to get EHX 44 Magnum; to run TT into a load box and through it. Would have fixed my difficulties with cleans with it, but opted against it, thinking it might ruin that great distortion and dynamics TT has on it's own.

So I ended up getting a new amp...

A TT for the crunch and one of the Vox MV Clean amps for the cleans would be good, with a 2x12 cab set up to run each head into its own speaker. With the advantage of being able to take the heads separately if needed.
But that would also be a load of hassle compared to having one amp that can do cleans and crunch.

Which amp did you get?

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

How much do people charge to re-cover an amp?

I have no clue, but that amp was actually in part designed by Orange. It was a limited run of 100 in 1998 called the "Orange Crunch", you can see the plate in the top left corner of the amp. I found a guy on EBay selling one locally, but it sold the week before I even saw it.

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

To folks with Tiny Terrors, Dark Terrors, OR15's and other 15W Orange amps: Are they loud enough for loud full band practice with a hard-hitting drummer? Where do you usually have to set the volume for that?

I'm actually picking it up tomorrow. Seller left it for shipping over a week ago, but the shipping company forgot to sent it...

I'll post a NAD when I get to try it out properly.

Yes, if your speakers are up to the task and don't need any remotely "cleanish" tones. It'll be quite on the edge. With 1x12 in close quarters I've had some trouble with feedback because of that.

Gain around 12 and volume as high as possible.

I have found enough volume in all three of mine...an OR15, Dark Terror, and even the Micro Dark, but your entire question depends on the speakers and cabinet used. I have two 212s, one with a pair of C-Rex speakers, and the other with Emi GB128 greenback types. The C-Rex cab is the louder of the two, but either one with any of the three amps gives me plenty of volume.

I tend to run them with the volume and gains around noon or less in smaller spaces, and I boost them with a TS.

So you guys think I'd need to use my Marshall 4x12 with Vintage 30's and Creamback H's and that my PPC112 with a V30 might not cut it?

I would unless you get enough from the 112. Through multiple efficient speakers, these amps are definitely loud. There won't be any super loud cleans with no distortion, but they clean up reasonably well for me just using the guitar volume.

I have a Thunderverb 50 !

I would love to have a Retro 50 (now discontinued)

Re: Orange amp you have now and do you want another.

I have one of the newer Crush 12 practice amps. All my tube amps are small shop plexi-type amps. I've been looking for a nice EQ and overdrive pedal to run in front of a plexi for a while now, was thinking pretty hard on a Mesa Flux Five. I stumbled across the Orange Bax Bangeetar... I am so impressed with the preamp in my tiny Orange amp I figured the Bax would be as impressive gain wise and between that and the parametric mid control I couldn't loose. I just got the Bax a couple days ago, so far I am blown away! If you are an Orange fan, you owe it to yourself to try one out! Huge, powerful, dynamic, musical, (insert cliche tone terminology) you get my point. Coolest pedal I've ever used for overdrive/distortion.
