Orange Cabs

im looking to buy an orange 2x12 cab. but they make an open back and a closed one. im confused as to why the open backs have the speakers placed diagonally and i guess the closed ones are placed horizontally? or are they diagonally like the open backs?

im wondering because i found that i can buy an open back much cheaper than a closed one, but i dont know if I can just close the open back myself and it would sound like a closed back? considering the placement of the speakers and dimensions of the closed back cabs....

if they are different, how would a closed up open back sound like compared to an already closed back cab?

Re: Orange Cabs

The orange closed back is made in England, of a higher quality thicker ply with sealed seams, top workmanship.

The open back is made in china of thinner ply, and is lighter and thinner as a result. I believe the cabinet is also smaller dimensions thus the diagonal speakers.

I played both and knew that I wanted the closed for the deeper and more focused sound, but open will sound more "vintage"'

Re: Orange Cabs

they are different sizes as well if i remember right. the open back cab is smaller and not as well made from what i have been told. i had one of the closed back 2x12's and loved it. i got to wanting a open back cab. so i measured the back and went and had a piece of wood the same size cut in 3 pieces. that way i would just take one of the pieces off.
i ended up liking the closed back sound better and put the original back on it.

ah...I see, well I definitely want the closed back, but right now its too expensive for me. Thanks for your inputs!
