Peavey doesnt manufacture tubes... They literally could be jj's just with a peavey stamp on them. I have seen them as relabeled chinese and sovtek tubes. I think peavey just uses whoever gives them a deal at the time.

Some are, some are Russian, it has changed at different times, I'm pretty sure it's just whoever gives them a cheap price on tubes

You missed what he meant, that by sending it back you could possibly be exchanging a superior tube for an inferior one.

No I tried out the one they sent it was terrible it was really low volume and not like the other JJ's that I have I think it was defective anyways. And yes they are sending me another one and they got good reviews on thoise super 7's someone tole me they are suanang something like that so probably chinese.

Maybe you got a dead tube that somebody shoved in the Peavey box and returned. It wouldn't be the first time. When I worked at CompUSA (yeah, I'm that old) we started having to open ALL returns because people would buy laptops and return them the next day with either an old laptop, other junk, or the one time we got a paving stone in the box.

Sadly people try that crap a lot a friend of mine once bought an amp off ebay when the box showed up it looked too small to use so we had the UPS guy hang on while we cut it open and there was a brick and a chunk of wood in the box. The seller tried to say that UPS stole it and put the crap inside the box.

We had to arrest a guy at work recently for this kind of thing. He bought a $700+ car stereo deck and returned it with a <$200 deck in the box and we didn't catch it until he was out of the store. Luckily, he was dumb enough to attach his rewards account to the transaction so we knew who he was. Earlier this week he came back and returned a laptop that he had bought recently, customer service didn't notice, but when we checked the box, the laptop in it was beat to hell and had a massive crack in the screen. After some checking, the serial number from the laptop didn't match the box. He got busted on the way out the door trying to steal a USB cable, so we had him arrested.

The local WalMart had to hire a tech-savvy person to check all returned laptops after an elderly couple bought a returned unit that came pre-loaded with a couple-dozen porn pop-ups :lol:
A guy I worked with said his house phone finally died after 5 years. It was a generic $10 phone, so he goes to WalMart to buy another one, only to discover that of all the things in the world that change in 5 years, they still had the same phone for $10. He bought it, took it out of the box and compared it to his old one, and sure enough they were identical.
So then he gets the bright idea to clean up the old one and put it in the box of the new one and get his $10 back.
He gets back home and plugs in his "free" phone, only to find it's broken. Back to WalMart for the same phone again, but this time he checks it when he gets home to make sure it works. For just a second, he said he thought about putting the new broken phone in the 2nd new phone's box and taking it back, but decided to just throw the phone and the box in the trash.

I almost wanna say that's what's coming stock in Peavey's amps, now, so probably.
The ECC83S is very hit or miss for me. VERY much a hit in Fender Black/Silverface type preamps. Very miss for me in Marshall type preamps. That's a personal preference, though. I feel the tube has a darkness to it that works well with the inherent brightness of Fender amps.
I almost wanna say that's what's coming stock in Peavey's amps, now, so probably.

A 12AU7 is a lower gain tube.
Unless it's in a cathode-follower or PI stage the new Tung-Sol 12AX7 is nice (CF & PI stages kill them since they're not to proper 12AX7 spec). I think that's what I've got in my amp in V1 right now with current production Chinese tubes in V2 and V3 and that set sound really good.

I keep hearing this about Tung-Sols but in five or six years and three different amps with them in every position, I've never had one go bad
