Original Floyd Rose Sustain Block

Any of you tryed using any of the new blocks for their OFR series bridge? Brass, tungsten, etc.I have a FR strat that I brought back to life and wondering about upgrading the block on it.My FR is an early one from the early 80s and I guess it's brass with a coating over it?

Re: Original Floyd Rose Sustain Block

I've used aftermarket ones made by other various manufacturers before Floyd Rose started doing it.

They all are a vast improvement. Go for a brass big block if you can. Go for a tungsten if your trem route is not routed large enough to fit a big block, or you have a floating trem and want to keep the advantage if a big block in a smaller stock size

Re: Original Floyd Rose Sustain Block

I've got a brass one from FU on my Gold Rose from 83. I like it.

Re: Original Floyd Rose Sustain Block

Thanks guys...Maybe leaning towards the brass wide block? I don't do pullups with the floyd,so mainly hoping for a bit of tonal change as far as sustain and a bit more fullness. Not gonna spend almost $200 on the titanium or the tungsten though.

Re: Original Floyd Rose Sustain Block

dunno about the lefty, but last time i looked at a Ti floyd, twas almost $700. IMO the big blocks are about the biggest improvment per dollar you can do. I started running a generic one off of ebay and they do fine, but now use the KGC ones. They are good folk to deal with, the product is great and I like the spring covers they offer.

Thanks pal...Won't be doing the $700 thing, but the wider brass bridge for under $40 is doable..Not even sure it will change much? My Floyd is a very early one from the early 80s and it's the 42mm one and is already brass..I could try it and see though.

Re: Original Floyd Rose Sustain Block

A big, heavy block does change the tone a lot. I prefer lighter blocks most of the time, for a more percussive, agile, woody tone.

Makes total sense! It's funny that I'm even thinking of doing any changes, seeing as this setup has been on one of my strats since about 83 or so..I need to quit reading stuff. ;o)
