Re: Original Floyd Rose vs. Kahler
I picked up an old BC rich a while ago that I'm restoring with a Kahler flyer tremolo system, and i've got an old kramer with a non-recessed OFR.
The OFR on the kramer has never gone out of tune due to using the trem bar. not a single time. this is partially due to the fact that its not a floating floyd, but its pretty damn good for me.
The Kahler on the BC rich is a tempremental little beast, I've tried doing light vibrato with it and its instantly gone out of tune. This is also partially due to the plastic nut and the location of the lock (behind the nut). Which IMO kinda destroys the point of having a locknut. I heard they had to do this to get around floyd patents though.
Granted, the flyer was the budget kahler model, and when it does stay in tune I like the smoothness of its operation and vibrato more than the floyd, but the floyd is capable of more radical dives. I'm gonna see if I can alleviate part of the tuning problem with a graphtech nut, but i'll put my vote in with the OFR.
