Re: Orrange amps
I quite like the Rockerverb 50, and the AD140 is good in a marshall-esque vein. The Tiny Terror is fun, though it gets pretty EL84 sounding at higher volumes. Gives a very good classic rock sound at medium volumes. The cabs are great.
Watch out for the AD30. Those are known to have transformer issues (Orange chooses it's transformers on a 'lowest bidder' basis, and the 30s appear to have suffered the most from that policy). Apart from that, build quality is among the better of the PCB, mass manufactured brands. I'm not sure about the chinese-made tiny terror, though.
Bear in mind that apart from some reissues, modern oranges don't really sound like old oranges. The modern amps have been progressively pushed toward a more generic, marshall-esque tone, basically in an attempt to improve sales: A kid walks into a store, see an orange and goes 'cool!'. Then they plug in and it sounds familiar to them, so they buy it. I've seen it happen countless times. If they heard the old Orange tone when they plugged in, they probably would think twice about whether it was the amp for them. Old Oranges are cool, but it's a different kind of tone, and not necessarily what a lot of people are looking for in an amp head.
If you're after the old orange thing, look into Matamp's reissues. Cool amps, and better made.
