Out of phase humbuckers?

Right now I have a LP studio with a 498 bridge and a Pearly Gates neck.

I had 2 PGs in there before but put the 498 back in and am waiting for an a8 magnet to ship here for it.

I noticed that in the middle position it sounds really weird, like weak and a bit wah-like. I'm not too knowledgeable in this, but it seems like what I've heard about pickups being out of phase.

Can I fix this by flipping around wires? If so, which wires?

I also assume once I get the A8 that I could put it in the other direction.

What do you suggest?

Thanks!

Hook the hot and ground wire to a dpdt push pull and have it so you can switch to out of phase by pulling up. Only on one pickup. Or when you hit the new magnet, as you slide the old one out, put the new one in so it's attracted to the old one.

Thanks! Is there a way just to put it back in phase through wiring without using a push/pull switch (just permanently in phase)? Wouldn't that be possible?

See post #3... we were probably typing at the same time. [emoji6]

Re: Out of phase humbuckers?

I'd check to see if the pickups in your guitar are magnetically in phase with each other.

When you place them face to face they should repel...not attract.

If they attract, I'd flip the magnet in the Gibson pickup.

Take your PGb and hold it face to face with each pickup in your guitar.

It should be repelled by both. If it's attracted to your bridge pickup that shows that the bridge pickup is magnetically out of phase with the PG set.
