Hello,
I am sprucing up this Godin I got. I has a Schaller Tremolo 2000. The problem is that the two inserts for the posts have pushed into the wood a bit, and are leaning forward. They aren't horribly loose, but I can rock them a tiny bit. While I have the pickguard off, I figure I should fix them.
I've fixed this before by drilling the holes out, plugging them with dowels, and redrilling. However, I wonder if I could save a step by simply drilling for an oversized insert. The inserts that are in there now are about 9.5 mm wide. Are there inserts out there that are maybe 2 or 3 mm wider?
There is also the cheesy fix of just epoxying the inserts in place. That would work with damage this minimal.
Thanks.
