p-rails wiring help!

Hello to all. I just puchased a p-rail set and I'm looking to install it in a Ibanez RG770 in a HSH configuration, along side a Kinman single coil. I would need wiring diagram for volume, tone and a 5 way switch; if needed , I can instal a toggle or two on the guitar.
I need them wired in series, as I will use the middle pu for parrallel work, in pos. 2 and 4. I need them split and the tone used as a blender pot.
I appreciate any help and I thank you in advance.

Upon more thought on this, I realized I would need to be able to choose which P-rail coil to be used - single blade or p-90. I suppose this wound require toggle switches as well as push-pull pots.
Again, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: p-rails wiring help!

you may have to wait until tomorrow what with the superbowl and whatnot.... i'd help you out but i can't draw up diagrams

Re: p-rails wiring help!

Have you checked out the diagrams on our website? If you take a look at the P-Rails diagram that shows you how to wire them both up to a single on/off/on mini toggle, you should be able to adapt that to any other diagram you choose. In other words, you can then just wire the hots in a standard way.

But have you seen the Triple Shot Switching System? It could also be a perfect solution. You can get any combination you want, and the Trembucker sized rings will fit the 570 perfectly.

If you work for SD, no offense but you should be of more help than this. I also sent your support an email and have seen nothing so far... I need a diagram, as I am not a tech or an elecrical engineer of any sorts. I would appreciate some help with it. If nobody has one, or canmake one up, I would appreciate a link or two, to lead me in the right direction...

Re: p-rails wiring help!

No offense taken. I try to help in any way I can, especially with questions regarding the P-Rails.

I also noticed your post HERE and also noticed that hillbilly responded with this diagram and link to the 3-way on/off/on mini toggle that I was referring to. I wasn't sure it needed repeating here. The rest of our wiring diagrams are located HERE. You can use a few different diagrams as your basis, but I must ask, are you leaving all of the components from your 570 in the guitar? Or will you replace the 5-way switch? Most diagrams will show a standard Strat 5-way switch, which will not look like the one that came with your guitar. THIS is the diagram that you would begin with, and instead of the Black wires from each humbucker going directly to the 5-way switch, all of the P-Rails wires would go to the 3-way mini toggle first, with a jumper wire going to the 5-way switch, as explained in the first diagram.

Re: p-rails wiring help!

Blend what and why?
Because I still want to use and blend the two p-rails together in some instances; most obvious would be the P-90's in parrallel. I also need separate toggle switches one for each pickup, as I may use the blend to get a bridge p-90 with a neck rail, etc...
I really appreciate your diagram; if you could draw me another with the two toggles instead of one, and the blender pot, I would definitely owe you, as most do on this site. Thanks

bump for hermetico...

Re: p-rails wiring help!

hermetico, please, if you could draw me up a diagram with the blender pot and the two toggle switches, I would hail to you forever!:naughty: Thanks, again.

Re: p-rails wiring help!

Hermetico, I'm back. I just figured that I'm going to use 500K pots, so I need .048 cap on the blender pot, Can you show me exactly across what posts this would go? The other thing is that I've got this crazy idea of making the toggle switches 3way, so that one position {up} would be a kill switch (no sound); of course the other two would be split and full humbucker.
I know it's a lot to ask, will you draw me up one more diagram with those two new changes in it? Because you know you ARE the ruler of this board! Please, please, please and thanks in advance!...

Re: p-rails wiring help!

split to what?
use the cap for what?
Thanks for the quick response.
If I use a 500K blender pot, wouldn't I need a .048 cap on it? At least that's what SD recommended... what do you think?
On the toggles you have above, they're already 3way, correct? That would be humbucker - p90 - single rail, am I right? If that's the case, the kill switch position is out of the equation, unless you can think of another way to do it.

Re: p-rails wiring help!

I dunno.
Why don't you try first without the cap?. If you find the sound so trebly then, you can go for that cap. Anyway, your project has no tone pot...

You have now: P90/humbucker/Rail for each pickup.

It is possible to have: kill/humbucker/split but, you need to decide if you want to split to P90 or Rail in each pickup. Anyway, makes it any sense to have a blender with a killed pickup?
Cap: If I did decide to put it on, what posts does it go on?
Kill switch: No it's of no use blended . I would use it only on the bridge humbucker. Is it posible?

Re: p-rails wiring help!

I finally got to this wiring project and realized my blender pot has only three tabs as opposed to the six in Hermetico's diagram. Also my pickup selector is the 4 on one side-4 onthe other side of the rotary switch.
I would greatly appreciate any correction of the diagram, or info on where goes what, from Hermetico or anyone else that can help. Thanks in advance.

Re: p-rails wiring help!

Rotary switch? You never mentioned that. If you choosed a rotary switch, why didn't get a 5 or 6 throws one, having 3 pickups?
Post a pic of such a switch or a link to some picture of it.
See, I don't know what I'm talking about... I meant a regular 5 way switch, with 4 tabs on one side, and 4 on the other. I called it "rotary" because of it's half-circle shape... sorry. Can you update that and the 3 tab blender? Thanks
