Hello everybody. I would like to set one of my strats with three P90 pick ups. Don’t want to change anything of a traditional stratocaster look. Which model of single coil pick ups is very very close in sound to a P90 ? Ssl5 ? Ssl3 ? Any suggestion is very well accepted. Excuse me for my poor English. BIG66.

Re: P90 sound in a classic strat cover.

I agree the QuarterPound Strat is fairly P90-ish; I've used and loved them in various guitars for nearly forty years. As Mincer mentioned, they don't fit under a cover but they do fit in a standard pickguard cutout and from a few feet away they look very much like black Strat pickups.

I imagine the Stra-Bro90 is even closer to P90 tone. I've never had anything made by the Duncan Custom Shop that wasn't truly excellent.

There are also other brands making a P90 type in Strat size. I have a set of VintageVibe SP90s that sound great.

I've also heard very good things about Harmonic Design's Super90s, though I haven't actually used them myself.

I've never played one, but the Fralin SP43 is supposed to be somewhat P90-like.

Fralin SP-42's and SP-43's are the best sounding. 42's are normal, 43's are hotter.

DiMarzio SDS-1's are the best affordable bet. They are outstanding, and very affordable. However, be aware that they are a good bit (but not a lot) hot/fat compared to a typical "vintage" P-90.

...IMO.

I have Lawrence L-280's in my Strat. I've heard them described as sounding like P-90's. They're noiseless too.
