How would a standard Tele sound with two P90s in it? Approximations?

Tone will depend on a number of other factors, too, including type of bridge, body and neck woods.
I feel your pain, though. Well, sort of. I've been kicking around the idea of a tele with a standard bridge and a neck P90, but I don't want to make the necessary modification to my current tele.

it's gonna have twang and clarity like a fender with the fat raunchyness of a gibson. pretty much as good as it's gonna get

eh, im not sure about that. i have a "tele" with two buckers and while it has some characteristics of a tele it sure doesnt sound much like a typical tele. there is snap to the notes from the strings thru body design but it sounds pretty different.
a p90 would be closer to a tele sound but its still gonna sound quite a bit different. ive played a few teles with p90s and always loved the bridge pup. some neck pups were to dark and round but some were great. with the right guitar and right pups im sure it could be a killer combo

That's exactly my position and I have two projects to finish before I start the Tele P90 one ................. but it is definitely in line. I am considering Mahogany or Limba body with Walnut cap and I can't decide on the neck/fingerboard woods. My concern is that too many different woods just may not go together. I am seriously after a different sound ..... not Fender or Gibson, and have definitely decided on a 25" scale neck.

My observation based on the black Tele pictured below (Phat cat bridge, MIM Fender neck pup) is BIG, fat overdrive sounds, great at picking up harmonics, beautiful clean sounds, great alone or with the neck pickup, just awesome. Tele + P90s FTW!

I still have that Black Korina Tele to finish and I didn't like regular Tele neck pickups in there.
I am not generally a friend of P90ties but I wonder whether that one (Korina body, maple/ebony neck) might be a good candidate to add some soapbar neck sound to my arsenal.
I still consider going with no pickguard so I can't freely try different pickups, I need to keep the routing to the minimum.

I've also contemplated doing it as a thinline. I really haven't thought too much about specs, though. The maple neck is a given, but I struggle with preferring warmer mahogany tones with the neck P90 and knowing that a standard tele bridge isn't going to sound like I want it in anything other than ash. The recent limba thread had me drawing up (Kisekea) a thinline tele with a tele bridge and neck P90 out of black korina. It looked awesome, but I knew the bridge wouldn't sound like I want it.
Maybe someday... too many other projects to finish.

The guy's playing British blues, and as a fellow bluesman, I don't see any benefit to "fender twang."

Well, I've never thought of SRV's tone as twangy but I do consider Gary Moore's tones (for my taste, obviously) usually a little too dark. So if a P-90 in a flat top will get me somewhere between the two I'm sure I will like the sound ...... for blues and more!

I kinda agree, a Tele with humbuckers sounds just like that, a Tele with humbuckers. It may not twang like a tele, but it has the punch, snap, and some of the sparkle only a tele can get you. I would imagine a Tele with P-90's would get you some twang, with lots of punch and snap.
