Parallel Axis overpower studio...

My Parallel Axis Distortion pickup just pummels on any track I record. The Parallel Axis series excel at 'stage work', but on studio recordings their bigger sound may be too much for some users.

I was wondering if anyone using the P.A. series pickups also use theirs 'on tracks' or resort to their standard version trembuckers for less 'bigness'.

Re: Parallel Axis overpower studio...

I haven't tried recording with mine, yet. I need to give it a shot and see if there are any problems.

Re: Parallel Axis overpower studio...

I have 2 singles on order...just installed the Blues Saraceno in the bridge & it's a very nice pickup. Aside from the recording issues, how do you like them???

As for recording, I know nothing, but it would seem to me that the levels can & should be altered to accomodate the high output. :dunno:

Oh, and WELCOME to the Forum Brother :beerchug:

Re: Parallel Axis overpower studio...

Glad you like the tone of the Blues Saraceno. Does it sound how you expected it would or wanted it to sound?

Re: Parallel Axis overpower studio...

Yeah, pretty much....very even tone harmonically; nice full tone. I can't wait to get the singles though to truly experience them:bigthumb:

Re: Parallel Axis overpower studio...

To clarify, what I mean is are your P.A.'s putting off a too 'In-Your-Face' vibe that would make you wanna use a 'regular' model pickup. I knew my previous post probably made it sound like my pickups were harshing my input signal. That's what I get for posting late at night- sluggish.

By the way, if you're thinkin' 'bout buyin' the P.A. Distortion pickup and have tried the SH-6 (or TB-6), keep in mind that it will make those sound 'small' in comparison, and I have a TB-6 in my neck-thru RR1 that boasts top construction- it can't keep up ! Also, it has and ebony fretboard which accentuates the high end...not a good choice. But, the PATB-2 sings, screams, grinds, and punches it's way in any situation. Hail Seymour Duncan! :yell: Hail!!!

Well, looking at the Tone Chart, they're rated at 21k......

I would imagine anything with less output would be an improvement in the recorded tone.

Stupid question, but have you tried rolling your volume knob down?

Re: Parallel Axis overpower studio...

I think I have an idea of what you're talking about. It's not that the pickup is too high in output, or you can't balance the levels, it's just that the overall tone of the pickup is too "in your face" compared to the rest of the tones...given that all levels are equal.

I haven't recorded with mine, but I have the Original Parallel Axis, not the Distortion version, and It's the best trembucker I've hade in my H/S/S Floyd equiped guitar. Thickened it up perfectly.

Perhaps you should try downgrading to the Original PATB for recordings. It's in the mid teen's as far as output...might do the trick.

Re: Parallel Axis overpower studio...

You might try splitting it for a thinner sound. :laugh2:
