I find partial split to be very musical and useful. Regular split not so much, just too weak and sounds pretty much like if I drop the guitar volume down. Partial split retains more of the original character.
Did a partial split with a WLH a while back. I think I ended up using a 2.2k resistor with it. A stock split was too weak since the coils are a little over 4K each anyway. Adding in the resistor increased the output just to where I wanted it and it was pretty quiet too. Definitely something to look in to when splitting humbuckers below 10k total DC resistance.
