PAT: (Polished-A-Turd) Peavey Rockmaster.

Not exactly a "turd", but about as cheap a Peavey as they come. I think this thing originally sold in a "starter" pack, with amp and cord, et al., for maybe $100. I found this at the flea-market, in almost like-new condition, for dirt cheap. I loved it. (That old simple-'n-clean thang that I love.) Here's a stock photo:

So, I had to mess with it. Note the cheap-ass tuner built into the upper bout. Thankfully, my version didn't have that. I put in a Chinese Hipshot clone bridge that I had lying around. (You can find these on eBay for less than $10 shipped.) The odd thing is, I have a genuine Hipshot bridge, and the clone is slightly larger, slightly thicker, and heavier/more mass. And the holes lined up perfectly. It was virtually plug-'n-play.

I originally put a Nazgul in there, but it wasn't to my liking. Killer when dirty, but no good clean tone. Plus, it cost more than the whole project. So, I put in a GFS Dream 180 that I had laying about. Perfect fit. Sweet and clean, crystal clear, but with nice harmonic goodness. And it fit the price-point of the project.

I think of this as the "adult" version of a Hello Kitty Strat. With new bridge, pickup, CTS pots, OD cap, and Switchcraft jack, I have maybe $80 bucks in this. And she's sweet.

I'm really trying to wean myself off of modding cheap guitars, but I had to do this one. I'm very happy with the result. :)

No love for a junkyard dog? I understand. "Starter Pak" guitars aren't for GAS'ing over. :D

But, working on another project that you might find more interesting as we speak. Livewire Classic II calibrated set, into my MIM Roadhouse Strat. Sneak preview:

That is hilarious! :lmao:

Awesome job and glad you got it up and running!

Btw, we need to do another trade/deal/sale so we can eat at that Mexican restaurant again!

Absolutely. Maybe after this hurricane blows over. Getting rough out there right now.

So far, so good. I'm not worried about flooding because we're in the "Rolling Hills" area. Pretty high ground for Florida. But we have this huge tree in our front yard that we're concerned about. The trunk is almost 10-ft in diameter, and the center is somewhat rotted out. If it blows over, it will take out our house.

Hmm i'd be curious to hear some reviews on those. There is very little info on those pups. I have the livewire metal/classic HB set (from 1990), and the neck (the classic) is very very nice a pup. I am kind of sick with the -metal in the bridge tho.

Great pup choice! I got a set for my Ibby RG3EXFM1 (thinking it was going to just be a temporary thing) and was VERY pleasantly surprised at how great they sound. No need to upgrade further! :fing2:

Yup. The only other GFS pups I have are the Dream 90 "Tuxedo Pearl" set in my Iceman. They're surprisingly nice pups. And I don't even need to add, "for the money."
