PATB 1 or 3?

I have a Ibanez S540, thin Maogany maple veneer front and back, maple bolt-on neck, rosewood fret board, with a Floyd Rose (edge). I play through an EVH 5150III 50 watt.

I like the EVH tone but also play Ozzy, GNR, Motley Crue and other 80's Rock/Metal. I have other Sabers with a Super D and a Custom Custom. I tend to like the looser bottom associated with EVH. I Always like Lower output PAF in my Les Pauls but have been more exposed to higher output HB's in the Ibanez but do not really think the PATB-2 is a good option for me of this application.

I want to try a Parallel Axis. Which would be best to get very close to EVH for the bridge PATB-1 or PATB-3? I will be buying the pickup tomorrow so please help.

PATB-3 is PAF-ish, with a crisp attack. PATB-1 is a little looser, more open, and wild. I think they'd both do 80's stuff pretty well, with the PATB-1 getting my vote.

of those two, if you want something a little PAF-ish with a slightly looser bottom, go with the PATB-3. for the 80s rock/metal, the PATB-1 would be the way to go. pick which genre you want and go for it. personally, I'm a fan of the PATB-1, both bridge and neck.

PATB-1 is what I was thinking. I know it will get me closer to the range of tones I am after, I just keep thinking EVH used a PAF early which keeps me thinking about that as an option.

Which would you consider closer to JB tones? The PATB-1?

Can someone explain "Modern Hi-fi sound" as it pertains to the PATB-1?

Modern has been defined as:
1. scooped or metal
2. High Output
3. Wax pottred
4. Contemporary design.

Hi-fi I associated with clear and articulate.

I assume that in regards to the pickup you could substitute "Modern Hi-Fi" with contemporary wax potted high output clear and articulate, but not modern metal.

I disagree with the patb1 being 'loose'. Imho the 3 is a bit looser.

Theyre both quite clear but the 1 is a bit less open and organic whereas the 3 has a bit more air to it. Less compressed but more chewy.

I am leaning towards the PATB-1. If that doesn't do it for me I guess I can exchange for the PATB-3 or something else.

patb1 is more like the superD, patb3 more like custom custom. I love both. they're just tools and you need to pick the right one for the right job
