PATB1-N swap magnet or try a different pickup?

I have been using the Parallel Axis neck pickup in my Custom 24 for years.
I'm starting to get into a lot of Govt Mule style music and using less gain.

I love the way the PATB1-N sounds clean. It's a little bit too dark and punchy for my tastes with distortion or overdrive though.
The description on Duncan's site says that the Parallel Axis is very close to the Jazz.

I didn't even really notice till I borrowed a PRS SC245 from a friend with 57/08 pickups.
The 57/08's are extremely sensitive to picking dynamics and sound great clean and distorted.

So......
I'm thinking about either trying an Alnico 2 magnet in the neck pickup that I have, or trying a Jazz, Pearly Gates, or 57/08.

I've lowered the pickup a little already, but if I go too far, the difference in volume between bridge and neck becomes too much.

I love the Parallel Axis bridge pickup and don't really want to change it in this guitar. It sounds great no matter what I play it through!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not looking for a particular sound, just looking for a little more cut in the mix when using neck pickup distorted. I definitely do not want to lose the great cleans in the neck.

Don't put an A2 in it, try an A4 instead. A4 has a flat eq response which will help keep the character of the pickup.

Thanks! I'll see if I have any A4, if not, I'll order some!

I put one in a 59n and it was a Goldilocks match.
