Re: Paul Gilbert Live Solo. Holy Smokes!

that's always been one of my favorite Gilbert YouTube vids! :headbang:

and is it just me or does his tone kickass?!

Re: Paul Gilbert Live Solo. Holy Smokes!

No matter whether you're into shred or not, there's some great licks in there to be borrowed!

I met Paul Gilbert in 89, not long after he won the Best Guitarist in LA competition, and even took a private lesson from him. As a 19 year old, he tore my face off, when watching him closeup. My style has sort of become a cross between blues, country, and a little bit of this style. Watching this video reminds me of how badass he really is. I saw his first 4 or 5 shows with Racer X back in the late 80's in Hollywood, and I can tell you, he probably played even more 'off the hook' than he does now, but his feel has improved a little since then. This youtube video is a great example of how technically astounding he is.

No band...argh:D
Awesome and funny as usual!!!
Love his badarse playing!

If there's one thing I love about Paul Gilbert, it's his sense of humor, and the fact he doesn't take himself too seriously. I mean, come on! Look at his pants, and those 'heavy metal faces' he makes on purpose to be funny. He seems like a famous player that would be a fun guy to have as a friend.

Re: Paul Gilbert Live Solo. Holy Smokes!

Yeah I have always loved his goofy attitude, great sense of humour, I used to have one of his instructions videos, mostly for his funny lines and stuff like that:D
The world needs more people like him!

In one of his instructional vids - 'I know there's a pulloff in this lick somewhere, let me find it (mutters to self while playing) Ah, there it is.' :laugh2:

I went to a Paul Gilbert clinic last august in Liverpool. He was both hilarious (with all his stories, e.g. how his hair got stuck in the drill :laugh2: ) and played some of the scariest guitar I've ever heard in my life.

He's just one of the guys that "gets it". Knows how to seriously play, as well as how to have a laugh, and make music fun.

Re: Paul Gilbert Live Solo. Holy Smokes!

He is down to the earth.I don't like his tone ,but his face ,his laugh ,his aatitude ,his technique ,and his homepge is Grandious.Man he is a good musician. And i nice person

Re: Paul Gilbert Live Solo. Holy Smokes!

Now that is some tasteful shredding. Those are also some of the coolest little licks I've ever heard at the beginning of that thing. Is that from an album or is that just a random solo he was doing?

To my knowledge, it's just a solo spot he did while on tour with Mr Big

Re: Paul Gilbert Live Solo. Holy Smokes!

I used to read his column in Guitar Player ALL the time when I was a wee lad.

Fukkin'...five paragraphs of rambling on & on about some whack-o sci-fi B-movie and how it relates to Bill Cosby or some jazz and then WHAM!

Some scary monster lick that was SOOOOO wicked hard to do that even after like...45 seconds of practicing with Mr. Metronome you could NEVER quite pull off that third legato triplet arrpegio in bar four....the one that was over the change back to G demolished.

Yeah man.

That some dope-ass whack stuff.

My hero.

Absolutly KILLS on drums too.

Big secret.

The guys a monster.

:headbang:
