pearly gates paired with A5 neck in tele ?

my American Standard tele currently has a "reilander RT3 Texas Style Tele Pickup overwound 9.5k, Alnico 5" in neck and "RT4 Split Grit Tele Pickup alnico 5/3 split Tele bridge pickup wound to 7.5K". love the neck pup, and like the bridge, but most times the bridge leaves my head wanting a lil more out of it.

currently i have a 4-way switch.

i'm wanting to change the bridge to a SD custom Pearly Gates to get a bit more power and split tones.

before i buy wanted to ask if the Pearly Gates bridge, generally speaking, would work ok/well with the alnico 5 neck pup i have in there?

I really don't know anything about your neck pup, but I can't imagine that the PG wouldn't go well with it. I like the PG, but I personally like the bridge model better used in the neck position rather than the bridge position.

I can't imagine it wouldn't be a great choice. Lots of people love the sound of the PG in a Tele...the Custom Shop version would be that much better.

in this case, i think the production pg would be a better fit. the cs pg is fatter with a bit more output which may overpower the neck pup. i know nothing about the pups you have but if its an overwound tele neck pup id guess the pg would make a good match. i love the normal pg bridge. what do you currently use the 4-way for? any split paf type pup is going to be pretty bright and low output on its own, but mixed with the neck pup i bet it will sound great

4-way was a typo, it is 5-way:
1). neck
2). neck & bridge in series
3). neck & bridge parallel
4). neck & bridge in series - out of phase
5). bridge

yes, current neck pup is an alnico 5 overwound to 9.5k

i'll just have to install it and see if the CSPG bridge over powers the neck too much. the general consensus from replies is the CSPG sounds really good in tele's. i did read that splitting this type of pup has low output but as you say, if a neck pup works well with it, more than likely it will sound pretty good...which is how i would want to use it.

appreciate your help!

that must be a HH type tele? curious, what bridge pup do you pair with the PG neck?

oohhh... we are talking about different pups. the pup you are talking about is the cs pg for tele. there is also a cs pg humbucker (full size). the cs pg tele pup is killer and should sound awesome.

the series, non-split option may be overly dark and tubby but see what ya get. id probably change that to split bridge in series with the neck or something else. the series oop might be cool non-split

i see. i sort of figured i would need to re-wire a position or two with the CD PG for a split-bridge. and i would want that with the neck. thanks all for your help!!

The PG in the neck goes well with many different bridge pups. I love it with a C8 (not just in Teles, but I use it in LPs and SGs as well.
