Re: Peavey 6505 112 tube combo,

Ya know, ages ago I heard some bands around here play live with those Valvestates and really, really dug their tone. I was talking to one of the guys from one of those bands and he said he loved it but he was moving to England and needed to sell it, so he offered it to me for a great price.

Then, pretty much on a whim, I went and bought my Laney AOR.

I don't regret a ****ing thing. MisterWhizzy is correct. It's hard to explain why a tube amp is better. If you haven't had much time with one then you just can't get it. And I don't want that to sound condescending or anything. I'm not trying to talk down to you. Spend some time with a sweet tube amp and you'll know exactly what I mean.

My AOR isn't exactly in tip-top shape at the minute, so I spend most of my time playing my LV300, which is a hybrid with two tubes in the preamp and a solid state poweramp. It's awesome and I get some sweet tones at low volumes.

But when I plug that AOR in...man, I never wanna go back. Everything just comes to life. And that's it. Tube amps have life. And there's no way to meaningfully put that into words that will ever properly describe it unless you already know what I mean.

In the end, it's your decision. It's your amp. If you like it then buy it and love it and have a blast. Just realise that there is a big difference and make an informed decision that will be the right decision. Don't just settle. Compromise just costs time, money and love. It's a failure.

If, on the other hand, having played all the available options thoroughly and you still love the Valvestate then **** us and our opinions. Do what makes you happy, man. Just make sure that you are actually happy.

Best of luck, man.

Re: Peavey 6505 112 tube combo,

I wrote out a lengthy reply but, my dumb-ass accidentally erased it. On that note - 6505+ FTMFW. The VK is also a great amp for the $. I think you'd love either one for what you do.

Re: Peavey 6505 112 tube combo,

I feel you on the lack of funds thing man. But still, we're all talking from experience. The valvestates are hybrids, and they still sounds like crap. It's just impossible to compare a valvestate and a 6505. Like I said, if you can afford it, go with the 6505. Just because something says Marshall doesn't mean it's good. Also, do yourself a favor and check out Jet City stuff. It's well priced and has good tones.

yes the jet city would be awsome for punk rawk
