Peavey 6505+ Anyone???

So does anybody own a 6505+ or has anyone played one? I"m not happy with my JSX head and I'm thinking about trading for a 6505+ or an XXX.
I havn't got to play the 6505+ yet, but I hear they are pretty sweet. I like the whole 3 channel thing that the JSX has as well as the XXX, but I understand that the 6505+ has a footswitch-able crunch voiceing on the rythem channel .........If I turn off the crunch will I get a halfway clean sound? I dont use a clean channel very much at all, but I do use one for a few of the tunes my band plays. I guess I'm asking this:
1.) Is the clean channel acceptable?
2.) Is the rythem channel ok with crunch activated?

As far as I know the 6505 it is a 5150 with minor changes. The name change occurred when EVH leaved PEAVEY as a endorsement but they haven't change the amp so far.

The 6505 and the 5150 are the same amps...there are no changes aside from the name as far I know.

You speaks the truth. The 6505 series are the same amps as the 5150 series, just a name change from the departure. I haven't put a whole lotta time in on the 6505+. From everything I've heard, the JSX is a more 'pristine' clean than the 6505's offer, but I know with both my 5150's, the cleans are fine. I think for people that play primarily cleans, they tend to have more to say about it, but as you mentioned, I almost never use the clean either.

Yes the cleans are useable. not great, but useable. With some nice chorus and reverb, they can sound pretty damn good, though. Good enough for metal cleans, at least.

Yes, you can get a fine clean sound with that footswitchable crunch. I suggest using an OD pedal with it, too, and working that guitar's volume knob!

I had a block letter 5150 back in teh day....one thing it isn't short on is gain...highly doubt you'd need an OD pedal in front of it

Same here. Had one from the first run of them. Great amp. And I agree, definitely not short on gain.

in fact, I think it had TOO much..lol..to me, anything above noon on the pre gain was just a mess...lol

I could never get 'my tone' out of it either....at one point it was just acting as a power amp for a triaxis....blah blah blah, lots of gear later...lol...

now I have a splawn Quick Rod on the way...while I love the marshall grind, I could never find one that I actually thought sounded good to me...so I got a marshall on steroids type of amp..lol...

I've explained this MANY MANY times...


The amp has MORE than enough gain. Alone, I put the pre gain on 4.5, never higher.

If you run a Tubescreamer into it set to a low gain level and higher output, you kick the **** out of the preamp, saturate the sound more, allowing you to lower the preamp gain. The combination of the two makes your sound more punchy and clear, as well as more defined.

The JSX is generally speaking a better "tone" amp than the 6505/5150. The JSX has bar far the best clean channel in its price range IMO. Generally, most people think the 6505's clean channel is pretty bad, the 6505+ is supposed to have a better clean channel. That being said, the gain channel is a lot of fun if you love an style of heavy music. Its pretty buzzy, fuzzy, and not to dynamic but my lord is it brutal! Much more so than the JSX with is much more clear and dynamic.

They are just a 5150 with a different name, lots of reviews all over the web. From my experience the clean channel is rather harsh and is actualy not really a clean channel...but is more of a 'not quite distorted' channel.

Distorted tones are fine, but rather one dimensional and lacking complexity.

a 5150 has more dynamics and little less gain than a JSX id say, i really didnt like the JSX as much as i expected (the ultra channel is horrible), my drummer was next to me and he said it sounded like a 5150 with only 1 ball, the clean is a lot nicer than the 5150 though.
