PEAVEY Amps appreciation...

Re: PEAVEY Amps appreciation...

What's the deal with the Windsor heads? GC has a few used ones for not too much cashola. Are they good, bad, or what?

They were cheap when they were new, and single channel amps don't sell as well these days. Prices have started creeping up on them the last few years though. Used to be that you could find them for $150 all day long

Re: PEAVEY Amps appreciation...

I had a Windsor for a bit and if you want an amp with a great AC/DC type crunch for punk or rock or.... It would be a killer amp...

Indeed, and that's exactly what I use it for. I like it so much I had this done to mine:

Re: PEAVEY Amps appreciation...

I've bought and sold many Peavey's over the years.

Peavey Valveking 1x12 Combo (3 of them)
Peavey Delta Blues 1x15 (too cumbersome to carry)
Peavey Valveking MH20 (didn't hold water to my Jet City 20HV)
Peavey Bandit 112 Redstripe USA Model (bad reverb)

I searched high and low for another Bandit, but couldn't find one at a decent price. I kept that one over my Marshall DSL40C since the sounded so similar.... But Shane from InTheBlues stellar reviews of the older models seemed to have caused the used market to go way up.

I've always liked Windsor's, they're cheap, LOUD, & can be made to sound decent with the help of a good EQ as well as a few other pedals in front of them...

That said, I've also always thought of them as almost disposable amplifiers too? For a while they could be had used in good shape for about the same price as having a tech retube them!

I've seen them recently as refurbished units for like $300 shipped online so at that price it's not really worth getting fixed (past new tubes) if something were to break? If you want something loud & cheap for pedals or that AC/AC breakup they're a good option...

A) AC/DC crunch is exactly what I like because B) punk and rock are all I play, C) I prefer single-channel amps and D) I am not a brand snob and love a bargain so..,looks like I may wind up with a Windsor if I cone across one local.
Plus it's named after a '50s Chrysler, which makes it more cool in my book!

Re: PEAVEY Amps appreciation...

The Windsor is a LOUD amp. It also has that class a, class a/b blend dial on the back which changes the feel and response of the power section.
JerryP at FJAmods did some work to these amps that just made them sound CRAZY!

Love the Delta Blues 115, BUT I do wish someone would carry it for me.....H_E_A_V_Y for this aging back.

Re: PEAVEY Amps appreciation...

I cant for the life of me think of the one PV amp I saw at a pawn shop a few years ago.. Was a small 1x12 combo but it was a tube amp and it rocked... Wasnt anything in the classic series.

I need to clean up my classic 30 too. I keep it covered, but have had to put away quick a few times and I think some sweat has caused a couple rust spots in the chrome on the control panel

Triumph possibly. Those were very good, and actually the first tube amp I ever played in my life. (back around 88 or 89)

I just sold my excellent condition Triple XXX head,,hated selling it,it sounded amazing! I upgraded the screen resistors and had to put 2 new effects loop pots onto the pcb,but other than that it was awesome!

Count me in as a fan of the Delta Blues 115. It's just about perfect as a combo for me.
