They are great amps...a little hard to find since they've been out of production for a while now, but they pop up on Ebay now and then. They do require a lot of tubes, 8 power tubes to be exact. That's the only aspect that worries me, as EL-84 tubes tend to be a bit less reliable than other types. Occasionally you'll find one in which the fan is too loud, but that's an easy fix. They sound great, perfect for classic rock, blues, country, jazz...just about anything that's not all-out metal.
But unless you're absolutely sure you need 100 watts, I'd go with the Classic 50 head.

The Classic 50/100 can do hard rock, but there are better amps for that style if that's what you'll mostly be playing. I'd go with an EL34 Marshall, maybe a DSL 50. The Peavey JSX is another good choice, it has a nice clean channel, a crunch channel that's voiced like the Classic 50, and a gain channel that's voiced like the XXX...you might want to start another thread asking for amp recommendations.

The JSX sounds pretty cool. I'll try that one out next time i'm at guitar center. I guess what i'm really lookin for is a certain type of distortion/overdrive. The kind where it's just starting to distort so it sounds nice and crunchy with good sustain but DOES NOT sound harsh or raspy or thin. Also a sound that's big and not too compressed. I guess it's a natural type of distortion. I dunno man i hate tryin to describe sounds or tone. But that's the best i can do. By the way, thanks for the info.
