Peavey Classic 30, I need your help.

So I've got a Peavey Valveking 1x12, and it's Dirty channel is everything I wanted, but the cleans leave something to be desired, which is fine by me, I play mostly metal anyways. The point being, this is still a pretty loud amp at 50 watts, and I've been looking at the Peavey Classic 30's a lot lately. My big question is, can the Classic 30 do metal? They both have 3 12AX7's, but the Valveking has 2 6l6GC's, whereas the Classic 30 has 4 EL34's. I know that I could pull two of the EL34's to lower the power on the Classic, but would it be safe to pull one of the 6l6's on the Valveking? And for those who said the Valveking couldn't do metal, check out the Tips and Clips. :smokin:

What style of metal. No overdrive pedal in front of it at all, with a medium to high output pickup and it will do some very very nice metal tones (needs volume above 7). Nothing heavier then megadeath and metallica, if you need more maybe an overdrive could help.

I use my Classic 30 combo a lot... Heavy sounding amp, but it would not be my first choice for a metal amp..... I like higher gain amps for sure and i use it a lot. But for metal i'd want something with more low end

I have a friend with a Classic 30 1x12 and I was not impressed with it. Very thin, 2-dimensional sound, clean or clipped. Sounded almost solid state. Maybe it would be better as a 2x12.

That's been my experiences as well. I just don't like those amps, period... modded or unmodded, stock speaker or G12H30. Always sound thin, harsh, and dull to my ears, I've never understood all of the praise about them.
