Peavey Classic 30 vs Peavey Delta Blues...?

Hey everyone, I'm looking at getting a smaller tube amp but don't have alot to spend. I play in a christian rock band and I use a Peavey Windsor 100 half stack for gigs but I also play on the worship team at church so I am wanting a smaller tube amp (probably around 30-40 watts) with a cleaner tone than my Windsor and would like to have 2 channels. (I really need an upgrade from my Line 6 Spider II for playing at church!!!) I have heard good things about the Peavey Classic amps and I am considering getting one. I also saw the Peavey Delta Blues but I have not heard much about them and was wondering the tone difference between it and the Classic. Also if anyone has any other suggestions for a different amp. I played a Bogner Alchemist the other day and LOVED IT but that is out of my price range. I'm wanting to buy a good used amp to save some money.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 vs Peavey Delta Blues...?

tried a hot rod deluxe?
They are plentiful in the used market and their clean channel is not "classic fender" but is still very fender.
it's a non-master volume but you can clean it up with the guitar volume for some really sweet clean sounds. My favorite in that wattage/price range by far.

try one and see if you like it. They have that pretty snappy 6l6 bass response that I really miss when playing smaller amps.

I have a Classic 50 2x12 that I'm trying to sell, but you probably wouldn't want to ship it to MO. It's a bit more full sounding than a 30, but more or less the same. Maybe see if there's one on C-list.

The Delta will be a bit darker and less grinding overdrive. More of a smooth toned thing.

Clean channel on any of those three amps is good.

Anyone of the 3 mentioned would be good for what you need... just get the cheapest of the 3.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 vs Peavey Delta Blues...?

AC15's prolly gonna have some dirt to it by the time you're at stage volume. If you're cool with that the overdrive tone is great.
The footswitch doesn't switch channels though, that's a bummer

Re: Peavey Classic 30 vs Peavey Delta Blues...?

i had a delta blues 115. great amp in a live setting. it has plenty of low end, but alot of mids. i mean alot. i could not dial out enough mids and eventually sold it. this is not a slam against the amp, i actually liked it alot, but my ears are pretty sensitive to mids, and i just couldn't adapt to the amp's voicing. also, speaker swaps are not as plentiful with 15 inch speakers as opposed to 12 inch speakers(classic 30). the two amps are the same except the delta has a tremolo circuit, and the delta has a pretty big cabinet for the 15 vs. the smaller cab of the classic 30 hence the generous low end of the delta.

I had completely forgot about the Hot Rod Deluxe! I'll have to try one out next time I hit the guitar shops. An AC15 wouldn't be bad but I'm wanting something with a little bit higher watts than that. So I think its down to the Classic 30 or the Hot Rod Deluxe.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 vs Peavey Delta Blues...?

IMO any of the Peavey's will have a better clean channel thean the HRDX.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 vs Peavey Delta Blues...?

I've got a Classic 30 and a Delta 1x15. The Delta hands down wins the tone award. Both have stock speakers and JJ tubes. The Delta's 15 inch speaker has more bottom end and a tighter, smoother top end. The C30 will get you by but tone-wise the Delta is king.

I also own a Hot Rod Deluxe and it's a great amp as well. The Delta however gets pretty close to the Fender's clean sound enough that you wouldn't miss not having the Fender. (I still can't bring myself to sell the HRDX)

All 3 amps you mentioned will sound great, take pedals and processors well, but to my ears the Delta wins. Now for the bad part - the Delta needs a tube tamer of some sort. They do rattle more than the Fenders do. Good luck!

Just to throw in an oddball recommendation - try a Bugera V22. I don't play any of the amps I mentioned any more since getting the Bugera, unless I'm running in stereo at a gig. You can get a new one for less than you can get most of the other amps used. I've had zero quality issues and love the sound of both channels.

Ok thanks for the info! I've looked at the Bugera amps but I've heard MUCH MORE bad things about them (like them breaking or blowing up) then I have heard good things so that kind of turned me off of them.

if you go bugera, fill out the warranty card. I suppose it can't hurt to try them. Some people go a long time and have no problems.
I mean you get 2 kinds of guys in the web who write reviews
1) those who LOVE it
2) those who HATE it

a lot of people who are unexperienced or poor are the kinds of people who buy bugera. No offense bugera owners, but they are targeted at a lower price point, and man people in that price point are shopping there because they're poor or beginners. Many stupid people may be poor, as stupid people generally don't do especially well in society. Many poor or stupid people don't know good gear from bad gear. Therefore:
Bugera inadvertently may be targeted at a large populous of idiots
A lot of people writing reviews on bugera may just be angry idiots.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of bugera owners don't love their gear so much that they have to blog about it, but it hasn't quit on them either. Middle of the road guys don't write as many reviews.

So there's my first rant actually defending bugera.
I don't buy bugera personally because I just haven't loved the tones. A 6260 is probably the one thing I would consider but I just don't need 120 wats of teh 6l6 brutalz

True, there have been some issues with some of the models. True there are just as many of the other brands that have had issues as well. Don't let that stop you from checking out a great little amp. I'm going on one year of gigging with mine and have had no problems with it at all. I did put new tubes in just because that's what I do. I've been a pro since the 1970's and still own a lot of nice gear and which I'll toss the Bugera onto that list as well.

I'm not trying to sell you on one. I'm just saying check one out because it could be perfect fro your application. I earn money with mine and people like how it sounds so I have no problem with it. I also love the built in 'tilt back' feet so that I can angle it upward easily.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 vs Peavey Delta Blues...?

The Classic 30 and the Delta Blues are the same basic amp. The DB adds Tremolo and has a 15" speaker or 2x10" speakers.

If the choice is between those two, I would go Classic 30 and find a Celestion Greenback or Vintage 30 for it.
