I played my friends new classsic 50 today and was suprised by the sound of it. it blew away my vox valvetronix head. he said something about trading with me and i was wondering what you guys thought of them.

I had one when they first came out, and I loved it. Does both clean and drive very good. I have never tried the Valvetronix so I cant give you any other advice than to play both, then decide which you prefer.

The Peavey Classic 50 4x10 has been my main gigging amp for 8 years now. Great amp! I get compliments on my tone all the time. It's amazing how cheap you can get these for as well. I've seen many go for $400 or less. It has a beautiful, lush, Vox AC30-like clean channel. The lead channel sounds great for blues and classic rock, although it doesn't really handle the heavier rock stuff too well and you really got to crank it to get good sounds out of it (duh, it's a tube amp).
My only real complaint is that it doesn't have seperate EQ controls for the two channels and like Bones mentioned, it doesn't have a ton of bass. It's has a very mid-focused tone, probably due in part to the 4x10 configuration. The Valvetronix will give you much more versatality, but you simply can't beat a good tube amp. If you do get it, I would recommend changing the tubes as the stock ones tend to be a tad brittle.

i live in Brazil and let me tell ya ....
ive owned a fender dual showman reverb,crate blue voodoo played sereral mesa amps and marshalls.i cant find a better drive solution for hi gain aplications,and with my jb with 500k pot i can even play linkin park.there is plenty of bass.the clean channel is not as good as the dual showman,but beats the mark 4 by mesa easy.
and its way louder than the fender deville amps.
there is loads of bass with a les paul...to much id say.
the bad part is i cant find a replacement for it to take to the studio.any recomendations....anyone

yeah i like tube amps better. i'm not sure if this amp has had somehting done to it or not but it had planty of bass i had the volume up to about 7 and the bass at around the same and played my tele through it and it was pushing enough air it was moving my shirt and shaking my windows. but i did notice it sounded better when i put it in a chair off the floor.

do any of you know of a better gain pedal better then the one of a peavey classic 50 combo 4x10?
it will be used for higain stuff,such as hard rock,alice in chains and guns.
