Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

well i own an old C30 and i have never tried the Laney... but i can tell ya that the C30 is a different beast when you turn her up and i'm not a fan of her at lower volumes... crank it over 3 on the volume and it comes alive... so maybe the Laney will be a better low volume amp

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

In my experiences with laney they do low volume stuff way better than most tube amps. I have played a C30, wasnt impressed at low volumes. The C20 rocks at low volume though.. the VC30 ive never seen, but ive heard many times and blows me away. I wouldnt hesitate given the choice between the two.

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

Laney's sound much better on low volume than most tube amps. I personally like the VC30 muuuuuuuuuuch better than the C30. But as you can tell from my gear, I may be somewhat biased lol. Seriously though, you won't be dissapointed by the laney. Also, which model of the VC30 are you looking at?

i'm looking for the Laney VC-30 112 and the Peavey Classic 30 112 (current models).
i know that Crate V series amps are very good, but in Europe are more expensive.

The 1x12 and 2x12 both sound great. I actually like the older versions that have the HH invader speakers better, but there is nothing wrong with the celestions either.

Attenuators - It's all the joys of master volume (minus the speakers being pushed) without all the ear swelling.

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

I loved my old Classic 50 at full volume, but I honestly didn't care too much for it at lower volumes. If I were in your situation I would be interested in trying a Classic 20. I have never played one myself, but I would love to give one a whirl at lower volumes.

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

I have played a C20 before at a small local store back home. I saw it and just asked the guy if i could plug in because i had never even seen or heard of one before then. Turned the volume to 1 and gain was all over, stayed at a voice level volume and sounded excellent. Didnt have as much warmth like when the volume is opened up just a bit, but the tone was still very open and lively. I strongly recommend that amp unless you need volume or gain.

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

seems like it's a shame that Peavey got the C-20 out of production...

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

i know both are considering as great tube amps for the money, so i'm between.

What kind of music do you play??

I love my VC30 2x12 and it sounds decent at low volumes. I've found that I do have to turn up the BASS control at low volumes. Like all tube amps, it sounds best opened up a bit more.

I think the Peavey classic 30 and 50 rock also, but are less versatile and a bit less reliable in my experience.

Re: Peavey Classic30 vs. Laney VC30... which is better on low volumes?

anything, from clean blues to heavy rock. i know an amp can't be so versatile (especially in the low price -for all tube- range). i need it to be responsive on low volumes for experiment with my pedals home. i'm looking for a 30W valve amp, since i'm afraid that lower powered amps, like 15W, would not be enough for live performance in clubs.

Do you have any opportunity to play through both the Peavey Classic and the Laney in your area? Like my previous post said, they are both great amps for the $$$$. I play/experiment alot at home with the Laney at low to moderate volumes and it gives me a pretty good idea of what it will sound like live. When I get to a gig (from 1 to 3 nights a week, usually), I usually don't have to change settings too much.
