Peavey Guitars (new production)- uncool?

I've lately had my snob eyes opened to the possibilties of budget guitars, and I like what I see.
One thing I do NOT likie is that everything seems to revolve arounf Fender or Gibson.
Im wondering if the Peavey guitar is being "uncooled" out of existence?
Is so, thats absurd, cause if you compare the Peavey to some of the budget Mexican production Fender guitars that many here constantly obsess over, I think they are every bit as good or even better.
On Musicians Freind, if a budget Fender ( likie a Squire) is discounted, they sell out right away. I'm going to show you a Peavey that I believe is better than the cheap Squires which sold out immmidiatly when clearenced, and just say that such name brand snobbery exists( even among Epiphone guys who need to be able to identify with Gibson when products with as much or better integrity are not nearly discussed as often).

I've played/owned a bunch of Strats. Wanna know what my favorite is? My MIA Peavey Predator.

I like that Tele-like thing a bunch. Very cool looking, and I bet it plays really good for a cheapo. That's a fantastic looking sunburst.

Yup. Thats the one.I wouldnt pay 750 though. Ill look for one used .

Mahogany neck thru Korean job.
Id change the pickups for DiMarzios. Looks like a solid axe. probably needs a set up. id try and find one in Natural Mahogany.Lotta guitar for the money.You figure if they make the koreans and need 750.00, whats the workmanship like on a 1000.00 US Gibson? I don't know..just wondering?

I've seen it up close and it's HOT!!!

The only reason I didn't sit to play it was because at the time I was more interested in this one:

The price is killin, the trem is so-so but the pickups are scorchin!!!

If the EXP was in a trem version I'd get it in a heartbeat!

Yeah, the purple was the one I sat and tried.
At the time I wasn't nearly as comfortable with 24.75 scale guitars as with 25.5 (today I no longer have that problem) which made things a tad complicated. The neck was also quite small.
The salesperson said that this guitar was originally designed by/for (I forget which) Vivian Cambel (Although this guitar isn't a signature guitar by any stretch of the word).

Felt really slick, very fast.
If there weren't other thing in my to-get list (or if I had some more money, whichever :9 then I'd definitely have it in my sights!

I don't know man. That looks like something a three year old made a drawing of, and they just went with it without making any modifications. Jerry, you trip me out with some of the things you say and do on here man. You'll rag out somebody's guitar that's nice, or dog out all Les Pauls made after 1970, or say all Strats made after 1970 are crap, or whatever....but then you want something like this? I just don't get you sometimes man. You trip me out.

I don't get it man, I find it to be very good as a rock-oriented Explorer guitar.
Not as pointy as a Jackson Kelly but those bevels make it more aggressive than the typical Gibby/Hamer.

I LOve that it has the 24.75 scale with a superstrat type body. I have since gotten this with my Salas'.

Also, this isnt for Viv Cambell, I think this is an updated version of the Adrian Vandenburg model they made years ago.

YES, I had the names mixed up, you're 100% right, it was Adrian Vandenburg that he said.
(Actually I mixed the V in Vandenburg with the V in Vivian :9

Anyway, yeah, the 24.75 scale is what's the most alluring thing about it right now.
I'm SO satisfied with my Swing that I don't really care for another Mahogany neck-thru superstrat but the shorter scale (thus, fatter sound?) does make it interesting...

Never been a huge fan of the look of most peaveys, they just look kind of weird to me.

I know the low end Peaveys moved to plywood bodies a few years ago. I have no idea what they are made from now. I have an older Predator with a solid wood body and it was an ok guitar for awhile but the hardware was crap and I wasn't about to put money into it.

Figuring out which $200 guitar is the best deal is sort of a funky proposition to me.

I haven't seen the Peavey in quite awhile but I am sure it is in a closet or under the stairs somewhere in the house. Its sad when you lose a guitar in your own home and decide it isn't worth looking for!

I've played two of those Rotors before-besides nearly gagging from the god awful abalone binding (the guitar-equivalent of a mouthful of gold teeth, AFAIC) and looks, I thought they were "meh" at best. For $300 cheaper you can get a MIK Dean Z 79 that balances better and is not so fuggly. The Hamer XP standard, Washburn pointies, and LTD EXP models are also far better, IMO. Those new Epiphone Futuras are pretty nice too.

My local shop had some of the budget Peavey strat types and they are more along the lines of an *average* squier (i.e. pretty much crap). Chances are they are all made in the same factory anyways, so what's the point? :laugh2:

I had a Peavey MIK Wolfgang that was prolly the best playing Superstrat I've ever owned regardless of where it was made. and the MIA Peaveys (especially the older Vandys) are *very* nice guitars.

the V-types don't even compare to the original vandenberg. completely different. the original is FAR superior in playability, at least to me. but, the V-type is a good guitar, don;t get me wrong.

some day I shall own one of the neckthru vandy's. had a bolt on already.

Peavey's are wicked guitars, especially the USA stuff. All i have played for the past 20yrs or so...
