My friend is looking at one of these for a affordable price, its started on $50 AUD. Is it tube or solid state, cant find much info on it? anyone ever used one. It says 300CHS series.

Re: Peavey MARK 3 bass head

Well the kid has a incredibly low budget, like $500 MAX, but he'd prefer something really cheap and for $50 this seems great. He uses mainly pedals to get his tone anyway, so as long as its reliable, a little unique, has some decent options, and is cheap I think its a good option. Is the 150 watts loud? would it be heard over drums and a classic 30?

Re: Peavey MARK 3 bass head

Although I normally would never recommend under 300w SS, that's a decent head, and the price is right. Around 15 years ago the bass player in my band was using a Mark III through a 1x15+2x10, at the time the band was a loud drummer, a 50w Marshall through a 2x12 and a 100w Marshall through a 4x12, he was fine. Later he did a Mark IV.

Re: Peavey MARK 3 bass head

If it has enough firepower for him then it's a decent deal. The Peavey Mark heads were decent rugged little beasts. I had a Mark IV that I bought dirt cheap, beat savagely for almost 10 years and then sold dirt cheap. it always served me well when i had it.

Just make sure that there's enough push going on there...
