I see these going for under $400 on ebay and would like to know if anyone has any experience with this amp and what you think of it.

i own one and LOVE it! it is the head they based the XXX on and sounds very similar. very good amp that goes for silly low prices for what you get. it's seriously peavey's hidden treasure of an amp IMO since everyone looks past it due to the low price not knowing it's pretty much a XXX.

Yeah, what XXSIVE said. If there's one thing I love about Peavey, it's that the amps depreciate so much.....plus, they're reliable and sound good. It makes it much wiser to buy Peaveys used.

I bought a Classic 50 4-10 in great condition for $275 one time, and it had one of the best cleans I've ever heard on an amp of any price.

I'm thinking about grabbing a sleeper higher gain amp for a couple reasons probably in the summer time. I've been looking into the Ultra Plus and Laney Pro-Tubes. Maybe the Ultra Plus with EL-34's is a good investment... thanks for the heads up.

they are amazingly versitile also. very nice cleans "green" channel (with reverb built in also for all channels) a nice "yellow" crunch channel and then balls to the walls metal on the 3rd "red" channel. plus it has a 3 way toggle which controls the low end for tight, medium or loose which can make it either real focused and punchy or just HUGE sounding depending on where you set it.

i love my engl powerball but i think i would sell it before i let go of the ultra plus.

The peavey ultra is a fantastic amp! I used to use one at practice every week. I was really only using it for metal & extreme metal, but it friggin rockked for those!
