Ok so i got a peavey valve king and it is a great amp but it feeds back like nothing eles not just on the gain channel but the clean too. Im wondering if im going to have to get a noise surpresser or if theres another thing i could do to fix this problem? And if im going to have to get a noise surpresser then wht kind? Id like to keep it relitivly cheap but it has to do the job.

What are you playing through the VK? What else is in the signal chain?

Re: Peavey Valve King feedback

Im playing through a VK and i have a ts808 and rocktron delay in my chain but it feeds back even when those arnt in the chain.

I was just reading about a similar problem on http://sevenstring.org/ . It was mentioned that there was a wiring problem in some of the Valve Kings and there was a simple correction for it. Also people are recomending replacing the speakers with Celestion V30s.

I looked too and couldn't find it. You might just post on the general discussion or gear about your problem and ask a moderator if they could help you. Sorry.

I am no amp guru by any means, however you can have a "microphonic" tube that can squeel. Loose elements can vibrate within the tube (especially a poorly constructed tube), and create feedback.

So... Im a moron when it comes to amps. Does this mean i have to replace the tubes? Ya the distortion is pretty crapy but i use my tube screamer most of the time so im fine with it.

Re: Peavey Valve King feedback

what guitar are you playing through it? is it possibly your pickups are causing it to squeal?

Well I played my guitar on my little crate amp and it didnt squeel. But i really need a different guitar to test the amp with.

Re: Peavey Valve King feedback

I did have an unwanted feedback issue one night and it turned out to be a bad GT 12ax7m. I id'd the problem tube by tapping LIGHTLY with a pencil on all of the tubes while at idle until I found the one that rattled. You will have to pull the aluminum covers to do this and in fact I completely removed mine, including the bases as they were rediclulously tight on the tubes. To do this you will have to remove the lower backing and the speaker to gain access to the deepest tube(V2). After swapping out the tube all of the feedback issue went away. Other things that will add to the feedback are crappy pickups, either singlecoils or humbuckers and hollow and semihollow bodied guitars have the tendancy to feedback easily.

Re: Peavey Valve King feedback

God its really hard to hear i used the eraser of a pencil but i cant find any ratteling but i wasnt that close should i be like right next to the tube cause im hoping to sell this amp and id like it to work.

Re: Peavey Valve King feedback

Do you have access to any other 12ax7's? A buddy's perhaps? Or go buy a new one, they are cheap as low as $8. Swap one 12ax7 tube at a time until the feedback goes away. If it doesn't you may want to take the amp back to where ever you got it.
