Peavey Valveking II 20 combo

Re: Peavey Valveking II 20 combo

I've played both the 20 and 50 combos. They're pretty easy to dial a nice clean in on with the variable class and resonance dials. You can go from clean to a little hairy on ch1 and hairy to medium gain on ch2 with the boost and extra gain on. I'd get the 50 because of the better bass on it.
Nothing crazy but a pretty good amp, I'd say. Dunno about craftsmanship though.

Do you think the cleans are on par with the Classic 30? Can I get early Deftones gain out of it without a pedal?

Re: Peavey Valveking II 20 combo

I like the cleans better. It can get a really loose butt on it which IMO make for a super smexy strat sound. The Classic was wonderful, but only one sort of clean, ya know?
I don't think it'll get into Around the Fur or whatnot. Its a little more vintage, even in the tightest setting. I'd give it a run at a Laney tone though.
It'd worth a try, honestly. I didn't like the 20s voicing as it sounded incredibly nasal and underpowered. The head and a cab of choice may be better.
