Are these good sounding amps? I think one of the skynyrd players uses these .. What can you tell me about them??? thanks

Re: Peavey VTM 60

I had one in the 90's.

Not a bad amp but you better like the one trick it does because after that there's nothing left to it.

Most folks talk about it sounding like a hopped-up JCM800. To my ears it had it's own sound though.

I ended up unloading it for a combo with on-board reverb. If I had to go with a head/cab setup now I very likely wouldn't go with a VTM60, but that's more due to knowing I would want something with a more vintage voicing to it.

Re: Peavey VTM 60

I've heard nothin but good things, and i've got a lot of faith in Peavey's amps. Try 'er out, it probably costs like $250 anyway.

Re: Peavey VTM 60

I've owned a VTM 120 since '87. Can't say enough good things about it. I guess if you want to compare it to a JCM800 I would say it's in that family, but warmer and thicker. Single channel, pre, post, low, mid, high, presence. Has a very nice effects loop. The trick thing about these amps is the dip switches in the front. Gain 1, Gain 2, Compression, Midrange, Low 1, Low 2, High 1 and High2. Totally revoices the gain and eq structure. This amp is NOT a one trick pony, only one trick at a time. I run an ibanez 7 band eq in front and a BBE Sonic Maximizer in the loop. Shut the eq off and it does AC/DC, GNR, UFO and anything in between. With the front end pushed a little, Megadeth, Metallica, Alice in Chains, etc. Roll off the volume and it cleans up well enough with the eq pedal off. I just bought a 6505+ and am in love, but I will never part with the VTM. Other people who used them include Soundgarden, Hank Williams Jr., Candlebox, Steve Morse, Adrian Vandenburg. Here is a clip of a football intro I posted not too long ago. All VTM, no compression or effects. http://www.soundclick.com/mikebourque

Re: Peavey VTM 60

not a bad amp when it has been modded a bit. output tranny is a little small, at least on the 60. i recommend for the budget minded. workes extremely well with EMG.
