Peavey Windsor

Re: Peavey Windsor

While not crystal clean, I really like the semi clean sounds. Great with a Tele and a lot of 'jangle' for a head of that type. I personally don't care for shiny cleans......

Re: Peavey Windsor

Fender clean, no you will not get them.

Semi-cleans, yeah no sweat.

It is a class a/b amp it can simulate class a

How useful is that 'class a ~ A/B' knob? Does it change the tone/feel/response of the amp in a broad way or is it pretty subtle?

I haven't come across a XXX head yet, but I have used the 5150 clean channel's crunch switch and LOVE that amount of gain. If it's voiced similar to that I'm probably gonna dig it a whole lot.

Looking at the combo again, I noticed that it's using two 12ax7's, not three like the head. Hmmmm....

Re: Peavey Windsor

Combo can also change power tube types pretty easily from what I was told.

The A to A/B works pretty weel, for my sound I go full A/B. The sweep is very noticeable. The resonance and presence sweeps are as well.

The XXX has more gain but there is something that is very similar in vibe to the 2 amps when compared to the X Crunch channel. I have only played the 5150 occasssionally , I can't really comment on it sorry. The XXX is by far a more versatile amp and when tubed well a better sounding amp IMO but the Windsor has a personality and tone that really works.
